  1. Many thanks! It did not restart and has been online for 17 days..
  2. Never thought about that! Does unRAID set a file size on the log which causes it to rotate periodically? If it was a random reboot this morning, I would think the parity sync would still be running now versus finishing early this afternoon.
  3. My server stayed online from December 17 and rebooted this morning. Yesterday I logged into the unRAID web interface and disk 1, a WD red 4TB had a red ball next to it. After looking over the logs I found a write error on December 29th which I suspect took the drive offline. I went ahead and stopped the array, unassigned the disk, re-enabled the array, stopped the array again, and then reassigned the disk. It did a parity reconstruction which took over 10 hours. Based on the current log file, the server restarted and came back online this morning on 4:40AM. I checked on the parity reconstruction this morning about 10 and it still had about 2 hours left. That being said, it appears it rebooted BEFORE the parity reconstruction finished. Would unRAID restart for any reason during a parity reconstruction? The server is online now and working with disk 1 running with no issues. Does anyone think these random reboots I am having could be related to a possible failing drive? If so I will RMA the WD Red. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  4. Thanks dgaschk. I reverted to a stock configuration of unRAID using your instructions and the server has been running for over 48 hours without incident!
  5. I ran a memory test using a bootable Memtest86+ flash drive and it did not find any errors. Any other thoughts? I have also check all the connections inside my case and verified there are no loose cables. Is there anyway to reinstall unRAID from scratch in case it could be a plugin that is causing issues? I do have plex media server installed.
  6. Here is the hardware I am running: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SL7-F-O uATX Server Motherboard Kingston 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) ECC Unbuffered Server Memory Model KVR16LE11L/4 Norco RPC-4220 SeaSonic SS-750KM3 750W Intel Core i3-4130 (1)WD Red WD40EFRX 4TB 64MB - Parity (1)WD Red WD40EFRX 4TB 64MB (1) SAMSUNG_HD203WI 2TB (1) Seagate ST31500541AS_6XW00GEB 1.5TB (1) SAMSUNG_HD154U 1.5TB (1) Seagate ST31000340AS 1TB (1) Western Digital Black WD1001FALS 1TB - Cache I reattached the log from today so that it is easier to read. syslog-2014-12-04_1.txt
  7. I was hoping you all could help me solve an issue I have been having. My unRAID server, version 5.0.5 Pro is rebooting randomly about once a day. It is plugged into a UPS so I am confident it is not a power issue. This seems to be the common line in my system logs right before it restarts: Dec 3 04:03:47 Tower syslogd 1.4.1: restart Every time after it reboots the server runs a parity check which takes several hours. I've attached the log file(s) from the last two days when it has restarted on me. Any help you all can provide would be greatly appreciated. Also if I need to provide additional information like hardware specifications please let me know! syslog-2014-12-03.txt syslog-2014-12-04.txt
  8. The more I read about this I agree. I am palnning on getting two 4TB WD Red drives as they on sale now at Newegg for $166.49 each. I will just install my two new 4TB drives, preclear them, build the array, then transfer my data from my WHS over my 1GB network. Once that is done I will start adding the drives from my WHS to the unRAID server. Is this the Norco fan bracket you purchased? http://www.amazon.com/Norco-120mmfanbracket-120mm-wall-bracket/dp/B0075790SO I may wait on the fans until I have everything setup and ready to install in my media rack. Thanks for all of your advice, much appreciated!
  9. Question regarding the MBD-X10SL7-F-O, with its 8 built in SAS ports how would I connect them to the Norco backplane? When I eventually go to 8+ drives I will need an a MV8 card correct? Going from MB SATA ports to SFF-8087 backplane port requires "Reverse" breakout cables. If you had a card like an M1015 with an SFF-8087 port to discrete SATA ports then you want "Forward" breakout cables. If you were going from M1015 SFF-8087 port to SFF-8087 backplane port then you need the 8087 to 8087 cables. The X10SL7-F has 8 SAS ports and 6 SATA ports so you could go to 14 drives before needing a MV8. You could also use a SAS expander and plug the 8 built in SAS ports to the SAS expander with a "reverse" breakout cable and use 8087 to 8087 cables from the SAS expander to the norco and control 24+ drives just off the 8 SAS ports built into the MB. 14 ports out of the box, very nice. I don't foresee growing my server to that many drives for a few years, but I do like being future proof! I'll add the reverse break out cables to my build list, thank you!
  10. Thanks for catching that. I will buy a 750 watt Seasonic power supply with a single 12v rail. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087
  11. It is definitely something I will consider and thank you for the advise. I have seen lots of people on the forum using the WD green drives without any issues and I was trying to keep my costs down. I may be better off paying more per gigabyte for the Reds though to get the longer warranty. I did notice the 3TB red drive has worse reviews on Newegg versus the 3TB green drive.

  13. Good to know about zip ties for the 120mm fans! I will definitely look into that during my build.
  14. I am looking to put together a unRAID server to store/stream my Blu ray rips to various media devices across my home (WD TV Live, Roku 3 (plex), HTPC. This will also server to backup family photos and videos. I currently have a old Windows Home Server v1 that isn't cutting it. After much research it is clear to me unRAID is the solution I am looking for. Here is my build list in progress, comments and suggestions welcome: Norco RPC-4220 (Newegg has a sale currently, 15% off all Norco products!) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811219033 Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101792 Supermicro MBD-X10SLL-F-O http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182819 Intel Core i3-4130 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116946 OCZ Fatal1ty 550W Modular (Currently own and plan to reuse) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341022 Norco 8087 to 8087 x 2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133034 Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB x 3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136874 The current plan for the hard drive setup is (1) 3TB parity and the other (2) 3TB drives as data. I own other miscellaneous drives currently in my WHS that I plan on incorporating, (1) 1TB WD Black for cache, (2) 1.5TB Seagate ST31500541AS data, (1) 2TB HD154UI data, and (1) 1TB Seagate ST31000340AS . One question I had was do you all recommend I transfer the data from my existing WHS over my 1GB network or install the drives in the unRAID array and transfer them first before preclear? I've heard the 4220 case comes with very loud case fans. I plan on installing this in my home theater rack in my basement and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on replacement 80mm and 120mm fans? I am starting out with 8 hard drives and I may just go ahead and buy a second Supermicro SAS card or buy a reverse breakout cable to use the sata ports on the motherboard. Please feel free to comment with any suggestions before I pull the trigger. A newegg preferred account is a very dangerous thing to have! Modify message
