2 norco 4224 servers, 17 disks (2,3,4tb) each. same basic hardware on both. running fine >1year. one has started dropping backplanes and taking attached drives. can't afford to keep. chassis is only part haven't replaced. want to replace norco with 24 disk supermicro. will convert 2nd server later.
msi motherboard with 8 sata ports connected by #2 reverse breakout cables ending in 8087 mini-sas to 2 norco backplanes.
#2 supermicro aoc-sas2lp-mv8 pcie 2.0 x 8 sata/sas 8-port controller cards connected with #4 8087 mini-sas cables to 4 norco backplanes.
want to take guts out of server, install in supermicro chassis. understand will have to replace norco cables with standard. will change fans/ps for quiet operation.
confused re how to connect current 6 mini-sas connectors to supermicro backplane. very different from norco, only 1 backplane per server (rather than 6). they have number of backplane models and at most take 3 mini-sas connectors.
idiot proof guidance appreciated. want to keep sata 3 and ability to use large disks (4+tb). haven't bought anything yet. want to buy what will work easiest/best.
thanks
