  1. I am running the latest version of Unraid with a NetApp ds4243.  Few months back I started getting some pretty consistent CRC errors on some drives in the JBOD.  I have an extra SAS SFF cable so I decided to swap it to rule out cable failure as the cause of  the CRC errors.  I powered down both my server and the JBOD and swapped the cables.  Didn't see any of the drives in Unraid.   I went back to the old cable and still not seeing the drives.  I believe I went through every line in the attached logs, but tossing them up just in case I am missing something obvious.

Looks like Unraid is still seeing my LSI SAS 2308 RAID Controller still.

    Attached logs.

  2. Replaced 2 of my drives recently that were getting old.  I used UD Pre-clear and both replacement drives passed.  When replacing the 2nd drive the rebuild completed with no errors but immediately following the device had an error and was disabled by UR.

Attached diag file.  My apologizes I did reboot the system before downloading the logs.

My best course of action?  Used to follow a Re-Enable Drive guide but link is no longer working, must be outdated processes.

  3. Hello,

Running Unraid with a NetApp ds4246 jbod.  The shelf currently has multiple drives working in Unraid.  Recently bought a WD 12TB drive that I was able to mount in Windows and appeared to be working as intended.  However in Unraid I never see it as a usable drive.  Syslog shows Read Capacity fail.   Anything else I can check?  Just not able to declare the drive DOA since Windows mounted it.

  4. Hey All,

I currently have an Intel S2600CP for my UNRAID build with 15 HHD plus another 6 SSD.  Im starting to get some SMART warnings on some of my drives health.  I have all of this enclosed in a single 4U Rosewell chassis that is NOT Hot Swapable on the drives and Im terrified of the labor involved in replacing a drive when one eventually fails.  I want to upgrade to an external bay for all HHD that is of course hot swapable.  Here is where Im seeking that education from the community here.  Thank you in advance btw.

What is the best way to achieve this?  My research has me thinking along the lines of a Xyratex SAS array bay and purchasing an external facing PCIE SAS controller.  Would this be supported by UNRAID OS?  Looks like I could do this pretty cheap, especially since Gen1 SAS or 3Gbps controller would be plenty fast for my home lab UNRAID needs.  Is my research off in anyway so far with what I described?  If so would I get more performance at all getting multiple SAS controllers and using multiple PCIe lanes.  I also intend to add some more drives if I do build this project so was thinking getting maybe 3 x 12 drive bays and 3 controllers to spread the traffic over 3 lanes.

I think with how Im describing my project you pros see my knowledge level with the hardware architecture, so any help suggestion or advise would be greatly appreciated.  Some new terrortory for me and exploration isnt very cheap :)

    Thanks all!

  5. Hey oh,

Recently when I update any Docker on my server the dockers go to an orphaned state.   I add the docker again and all configuration is in place.  I am wondering if this is a permission setting on the docker, but I am not sure what to look for exactly.

    Thanks in advance!

  6. Hello Unraid community.

I am curious if I am able to limit the amount of resources a docker has access too.  I recently installed the Handbrake docker  and start my first job.  I have a fairly decent servers for unraid with '2 x E5-2670's'.  When I fired up my first handbrake job I saw all CPU cycles get consumed.  As sexy as this is I have a VM that is my main base of operation also running on the server and its is very unresponsive with handbrake eating all cycles.

Is there a way to restrict which cores Handbrake docker can use?  Or at least limit how many cores it has access too?

    Thank you in advance!

  7. Just created a post asking for suggestions on router/fw so I will keep this one short.

'Currently' I have my UNRAID setup in a 4U chassis.  Link to Amazon (FYI, I bought the chassis for $69.99 which was a great buy.  Now they want $199.99 for it and it not even close to worth it.  You want hot swap bays period.)

Anyone have a suggestions on a no less than 12U server rack?  I would be for sure adding my UNRAID server @ 4U, Network Switch @ 1U (2U), a drawer or two at 2U each and a self at the top for various equipment that isn't rack mountable.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you UNRAID community.

  8. Hello UNRAID community,

I move a great deal of traffic at home for business and pleasure and I am interested in purchasing a business class wired router/fw.  I move a HUGE amount of traffic in house and externally so I want something that can handle my activity.  I do not want my router to be wireless as I will setup a couple AP's separately.  The type of traffic that is present daily is multiple VPNs, multiple Plex streams, large file transfers internally and externally, upwards of 20 devices connected internally, a DMZ for web-hosting and so on and so on.

Would anyone have any suggestions on a router/fw that would fit my needs?  Thank you all in advance!

  10. I upgrade my UNRAID via plugin to 6.3.1 recently.  This was a bit of an adventure in itself.  On the reboot post install I was getting a Kernel panic which lead me to run Memtest for a few days (no errors found), I also plugged the UNRAID OS usb into windows and ran chkdsk (no errors).  While I was searching the BIOS making sure everything was still set properly I realized my BIOS version was 4 years behind (Intel SP2600CP) so I flashed the BIOS to latest firmware.  After that UNRAID booted right up!!  All was well until today I fired up a couple of my VMs for the first time post upgrade (Server 2016 and Linux Mint).  Neither will boot into the OS.

I checked the settings under edit and did notice some of the settings had changed and were not correct.  I am using Unassigned Devices for my disk drives and I made sure the vDisk location was pointed to the correct disks.  I also had to change the OS Install ISO to the correct ISO.  For some reason both were pointing to the wrong source.

When I try to boot the Linux Mint VM it just hangs at "Booting from Hard Disk".

When I try to boot the Server 2016 it boots directly into the Install ISO.

I have also verified the XML and the boot orders are correct, the vDisks are boot 1.  I did find some post upgrade 6.2.X instructions I found, but I don't ever reach a EFI shell so not able to complete those parts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you in advance.

  11. I have the following setup with 2 disks

    Tower > Movies > A

What happens if I was to copy the same file to

    Disk1 > Movies > A and Disk2 > Movies > A

Both disks are in the user share Movies.  The same exact file is copied directly too 2 different disks to the same user share with the same path.

Would the file take up double the space in the array?

Hope I explained my scenario clearly enough.  Thanks in advance for the help!
