  1. Hey I just wanted to ask about the PSU--early on in the thread you said the fan never even turned on. Has that been consistent? If the fan does turn on, is it always loud or start quiet and ramp up? Sorry if you asked this already, I did try reading/skimming the thread and I didn't see you mention the PSU fan except the beginning.
  2. I got a quote for a different case, the d416, and the shipping only came to 45 pounds, about $110. The price with shipping is still competitive with what's available in the US.
  3. Here's a rack case that's a good deal shorter than 25": http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147154&cm_re=rosewill_chassis-_-11-147-154-_-Product This one is less than ideal because some of the drive bays will be mounted one way and one drive bay will be mounted another way. I guess I can't get everything I want...also I'm not sure how having no fans in the center of the case will affect the air flow. Also this, but shipping to the USA kinda kills it. I'd like something like this, just not filled in with hot swap bays from the start. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31887.0 The nexus prominient 9 looks like a great option but I'm having a hard time finding it for sale anywhere. I emailed the manufacturer.
  4. This is pretty much exactly what I would want, but I'm in the US.
  5. I've never had to use the flex shaft attachment. I might have to give that a try tomorrow.
  6. I'm looking for something like the Rosewill RSV-L4500 but not exactly. I would like an affordable case that has 3x3x5.25" bays that will fit 5-in-3 hot swap cages like the Norco SS-500. I'm honestly not even sure if the above case can fit any, if it only has bays for mounting internal 3.5" drives. It's kind of hard to tell from the pictures whether those internal bays can be removed or modified to store something like the SS-500. I also would like something that's not quite as long as that case. It's 25" long plus the handles. It seems at least 3" longer than necessary to hold a regular ATX board and something like the Norco SS-500 in front of it. But if the RSV-L4500 will work then I can't complain too much. You might ask, why don't I just save up and get something like the NORCO RPC-4020? I have a couple reasons... first of all it's also super long so it's not quite ideal. The second reason is I have had a bad experience with 2 of the 2 of these I have ever worked with. One of them, drives would not stay connected when multiple drives were being written at once. It seemed like the vibration would knock them out. The other one, my friend had and the top lid became warped and stuck. He had to cut it open with an angle grinder. Maybe we were just unlucky? Also, I can imagine having 15 drives in a case but in all likelihood I will never have more than 12, maybe even 10. I'm starting with 5. A case that could grow to hold 3 cages with 5 drives each would be ideal. I would use one for now, and possibly add a second or third cage later. You might also ask, if I had bad experience with Norco before, why would I buy their 5 in 3 cages? I have no idea...maybe I shouldn't, but they seem pretty well regarded here.
  7. Hi, I'm having a hard time bending the tabs in the 5.25" bays in my case in order to get a norco SS-500 installed. There's not a lot of room to get any leverage with pliers. With what little leverage I have it seems very difficult. The tabs are barely moving. Only the part that's actually clamped down by my pliers is moving--not the whole tab. They're getting mangled without really getting too far out of the way. I have seen people mention using c-clamps to move them. I'm not really handy and I'm having a hard time imagining how to do that. Here's one example of where someone describes a technique kind of vaguely: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=16036.msg148494#msg148494
