I'm looking to build my first unRAID solution, but i'm having troubles deciding on the components. Cost isn't a factor, but it does need to be reasonable. I see what others are building, but i'm not necessarily "on board" with the solutions of some. I do know some things that I would like to do, and I hope that others have some suggestion to help fill in the gaps. One thing is I want it to be powerful enough to do what I want, but as quite as I can get it. I'm trying to figure out an ITX solution becuase I want it small.
I'm looking to do:
1 Parity Drive (WD Red 4TB, or Seagate NAS 4TB)
5 Storage Drives (WD Red 4TB, or Seagate NAS 4TB)
1 Cache/Plugin Drive (SSD, haven't decided on size yet)
*I would do eight drives if I picked the DS380B case.
Plugins: PLEX, Webserver/Owncloud
Case: LI PC-Q25B, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112339
SilverStone DS380B, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163255
*I like both of them. Everyone mentions the cooling is great in the Q25B. I thought about getting the SilverStone DS380B for more room, but I keep reading about cooling issues.
MB: Intel, don't know what one yet
CPU: Intel i5 Quad, perhaps?, don't know exactly
RAM: ECC, perhaps 8GB?
PSU: Not sure
SATA Controller: I would think I would need a simple SATA controller for more than six drives
As far as Plex goes I want to be able to support two streams. Most of the time it will be just one stream.
Any thoughts?
