  1. I too had been looking at purple drives, meant for 24/7 use and all plus using less than the normal cams amount dont see why bw would be an issue
  2. Here it is thursday night almost 9pm eastern time and still on 3rd pass of preclear, so far all looking ok.
  3. UPDATE: finally recieved the drive yesterday, its been preclearing all night. I put it on 3 pass. its much noisier than the other drives in my tower. im going to try moving it to my other hotswap trays after preclear is done to see if its vibration causing the more noise. It is a 7200rpm drive and my cache drive which is not screwed in either runs at 10,000rpm and its much quieter. Well after first pass of preclear the drive has quieted down, not sure why the first hour or so it was noisy causing vibration in my tower.
  4. I've been using this for a long time to migrate os drive to ssd, or just backup OS drive or other partitions. I use 2009, for my first time today I tried making an image strait to the cache drive on UNRAID it executed pretty quickly. I made a bootable dvd and now im in process of restoring and all seems to be great. I tried it once before but didn't have enough space on server for all my homes pc's. Now I have space as well as gigabit in all rooms now. My question is now could I get any benefit from using network bonding? My brother and father were also streaming on my network at the same time. I tried bonding once before and didn't notice much but was before I read that it wont make my network fast as it, is like adding another lane of traffic on a road, still capped at same speed limit. Correct me if im wrong please.
  5. Thanks for your guys input I just ordered one up to see how it is. Thank you Garycase. I didn't want to cross post. I know many forums frown upon that. 6. I did indeed email them. Im legally blind since birth. I tried enlarging myself but was not able to read. I'll chance and order one. Next month i'll get a WD red so I mix it up some 2xseagate already in server so 1 of these and next a wd red should split things up enough so they dont all start failing around sametime.
  7. Thanks I got it working now. wow it shows a few of my drives way past warrenty hours but otherwise look fine.
  8. I understand that. Just my point on warrenty is in 4 years if my drive fails and I loose my data, I dont have to buy another drive, I send it in and get another with short remaining warrenty is why I like to pay for the longer warrenty. AS for seagate i bought 2 last month and got only 1 year of the drives usual 2 year warrenty is y im paying more attention this time. Alos in 25+years of building my old pcs seagates have been the most pron to failure for me. Yes wd's like to slow down with age but they keep going. My most reliables have been IBM/hitachi. Thanks for your quick replys. I keep looking myself to find for sure if this toshiba does really have 5 year warrenty. I'll keep my eye on the REDS I find on ebay marked as new with a reputable seller. Heres link to the drive I emailed seller to see http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hitachi-Toshiba-4TB-7200RPM-3-5-SATA3-6Gb-s-64MB-Hard-Drive-HDETR11GEA51-/281424405058?pt=US_Internal_Hard_Disk_Drives&hash=item418633a242
  9. Hello guys I have been searching hard for another 4tb or 2, I want the longer warrenty so I was looking at wd reds or hitachi, then I stumbled upon this toshiba drive. It says it has warrenty till 2019 so I am very interrested to see if anyone has tested them on UNRAID. Toshiba 4TB 7200RPM 3.5" SATA3 6Gb/s 64MB Hard Drive HDETR11GEA51 Factory sealed . Direct Toshiba Warranty till 2019 I picked up two seagates last month 4tb stupidly not paying attention to warrenty. When I got them I seen 1 year warrenty. im not happy but for now one is parity and the other is just a tv drive so I will replace them over the summer. My movies are all on old out of warrenty drives on my unraid. They are also on my older windows 7 pc as well on drives out of warrenty.
  10. Its built into unmenu, but its erroring saying I not have the directory when I click on the smart history If you wonder why writing so big on my screen is cause im legally blind and I have font set that large so I dont have to lower resolution.
  11. Hello im running 5.0.6 and I have unmenu installed I just clicked on smart history and I got this error. Sorry: cannot run smarthistory. The /boot/smarthistory directory does not exist. How do I correct this so I can keep track or make sure my drives are healthy without running full parity checks daily? I thought I could just login via windows and make the directory, but am not positive where to put it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Ok thanks for your reply i'll fix the small unit for dads pc and I'll get myself the cyberpower 1500 model, think this 1500 model is enough for 2 pc's or just the server since my server is right next to my brothers gamer, my old server [my current backup server]
  13. Finally figured out pics on this page Heres an older pic of my server when it was in my bedroom hooked up as a media server
  14. Thanks for your replys first and foremost. mine still needs battery replaced or it just beeps so I cant set it up. My friend/cousin lives in PA im in CT so I cant look on his atm.
  15. I have been told noone knows for sure about the model I mentioned, but I set it up on friends and it indeed does work. This model CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD UPS 140$
  16. Thanks for the reply i'll look into that. Many have told me my bigger unit is junk and not to even bother using it. Thats why I even bothered to try with the apc dad gave me. I guess i'll have to byte the bullet and spent 140$ or so on a cyberpower 1500 unit. I read its one of the better lower cost units that does in deed work with UNRAID. After all I already spent and will be spending on more hard drives I want it safe is my point behind this.
  17. yes I read specs right after I wrote the last post. Ill fix it but just for my network and possibly my brothers smaller low power pc. but I do want my network up as well and the router and firewall are about 10 feet away from the network. My modem has battery backup on its own so that I wont need to put on. Thanks for your quick reply. I have another older off brand one but that one I cant find a battery for and I dont know if unraids app to shutdown will work on it. PCM I believe it was was 500watt. Its much bigger and has more ports. has 4 battery ports and 4 surge protected ports. This one I dont know much about. Was left in my second apartment by a previous renter.
  18. Anyone have experience with this model. I had one given to me. I need to order new battery is all. If it would work with unraid and be powerful enough i'll do it since will be cheap. Back-UPS ES 350 this is the model number looking it up now myself too. http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=be350u
  19. Well is all up to date now with 5.0.6 installed and working with all my drives, 7 data 1 cache and 1 parity, but have room for 5 more in my inwin q500b full server tower from 20 years ago. I still may either cut whole in side of cabinet to feed more cables to a second smaller case, but if I do im mounting it to the back side of my tower so i dont need to use external cabling. I may hang a 3 or 4 cage I took out of an older cheap tower I trashed. I can rivit it top just far enough in front of the top rear fan so will have some cooling and all the other top drives are in back plain cages with built in fans I have curently reversed the fans to exhaust and I did see both lower temps on the drives and lower temps inside the tower. I do have to run the fans on there higher setting once the cage fills with drives but if only 2 of the 3 occupied in lower cage not need high setting, the quad cage I have 2 of one in my unraid and 1 in my older windows 7 server both of them only need high setting once all 4 are populated. wish I could figure out how to put pics up on this forum. Id show my setup. I know it needs a better cable management but till I replace all the lower smaller drives I dont plan to do so. temps re ok most of the time.
  20. Ah tonight I finally had free time to do a few checks and I tried once again to copy to the stick and I noticed the pc I used to do this is running windows 10 developer prevue and it did indeed not overwrite the files. I see the file date on the 4 files I tried to move are still old dated files. I then tried from my old server runing windows 7 64 bit and it did indeed work that time. So I found my first sortof bug on windows 10. Otherwise so far win10 is the fastest microcrap OS Ive used to date. Im using it on my oldest 775 socked motherboard, from my favorite motherboard manufacturer that is no more unfortunately. ABIT. Its got amd chipset but its been rock solid for me. Working it as hard as I can and even seeing 95+% cpu load the pc is still zippy. has a q6600 overclocked at 3ghz thats all and 6gb ddr2. Sorry for my rant. Im just happy i found out why it didn't update last time. Im running a parity check since I moved alot onto the server in the past day or 2. So i'll reboot when I wake tomorrow.
  21. Hope to be able to order a few myself. I have a few friends that have seen my server and want one too. I plan to get a few usb sticks and help them setup the free one for them. I'll by maybe 10 or so myself soon as im paid. Then anyone that gets a setup from me and later pays for pro, as I run i'll give a sticker too as well. I find this software so easy for newbies too. Some of the plugins can be tricky for those not use to linux or command promt. I had my first one up and running on really old p4 just as test but quickly I wanted it on sata drives
  22. Yes I overwrote, i'll shutdown and move the stick next time to make sure it overwrites correctly.
  23. Well I did as instructions say I can just copy the files bzimage, bzroot, readme, and memtest files to my flash drive. I then rebooted as directions say. Server is up and running but still says its version 5.0.5 in the browsers control pannel I guess its called
  24. Ok thanks just downloaded the zip extracting and i'll read up before I attempt to start. testing pic? http://1drv.ms/1DBpYfY
  25. Havent upgraded yet. Do I just get the new file then extract it on pc then copy files over old files ? I have pro and dont want to mess up the stick
