  1. So I have some bad news about shipping the case from Switzerland. As suspected by a few users, it's too expensive. Usually shipping is at least as much as the case and up to at least double the price! I think its not so much the weight thats the problem, but also the size. Sorry about that!
  2. @userpaul: thanks for that observation. I will see what I can do if there is an ample interest. Otherwise I will see if there is a suitable alternative option. @kizer: Yeah I've also had good experiences with group buys. As soon as I have some time I'm going to check shipping costs. They seem to be readily available here in Switzerland, and the more you send the cheaper the freight costs/case are going to be.
  3. hi bjp I tried contacting sharkoon to see about shipping directly. unfortunatly they havent answered yet. But if there is serious interest I may just call them up and see what their minimum bulk order would have to be.
  4. @Brit: Thanks for the info. I will see and maybe just hook up 3 drives for now. Then with the next batch of drives also add a bigger PSU. @rich.bingham: thanks for the suggestion. I will look into those here in Switzerland. @neilt0: PROUD TO BE A PART OF THE REBEL ALLIANCE. Will post pics and comments as soon as all the parts arrive and I have time to put it together.
  5. Hi Rajahal I will try and find out some shipping prices asap and let you. And of course feel free to move this thread to the good deals forum.
  6. Hi all After doing some reading here and also asking some questions I finally got around to ordering all the components for my server: Case: Rebel 12 Economy MB:Supermicro C2SEA CPU: Celeron 430 RAM: Kingston ValuRAM 2x2GB ( know its overkill but you never know... ) HD: 5x WD20EARS ordered on two different occasions Flash Drive: Super Talent USB Memory, 8GB Pico Mini Basically the setup is a deviant of Rajas suggested 20 drive beast. Thats also why I bought the large case and the MB. That way I think I have good expandability. I plan to add drives, drive cages and SATA cards as needed. Also increases the WAF since I spend money over a longer stretch! And now a question: I have a Thermaltake TR2 RX 450 Watt PSU which claims to have dual 12V rails. I dont know whether this is true or not, but the main question is, is this PSU sufficient to power the above components? I know once I get more HDs I will need to get a bigger PSU, but again WAF plays a role. Additionally I have some other questions: 1. Any particular suggestions on VERY quiet 140mm fans to put in the front and one in the back? 2. Could I mount a fanless CPU cooler on the CPU and if yes, suggestions? 3. Would a fan control module make sense? Any experiences with these would be greatly appreciated. 4. Am I forgetting anything? Apart from some additional SATA cables. Soon as I start building etc. I will try a post some pics. David
  7. yep looking at the SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O with a i3 proc. So do I take registered or unregistered RAM??
  8. I still found it on their HP. http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=de/node/1123 I still think I would get a decent price if I ordered a whole bunch of them. But I'm gonna wait for their answer.
  9. Hope the following post doesn't go against any forum rules, if so mod please delete and accept my apologies. Having done quite a bit of reading in this forum and always coming accross users who seem to be interested in the above mentioned case, but not being able to get it in USA and even some parts of Europe, has given me an idea. Living in Switzerland I seem to have great access to this case. So I thought why not order a whole bunch of them and then send to all of you who want such a case. Basically I would do a mass order and then redistribute it to whoever wants one. Having seen some threads and pictures that use this case it seems its predestined for large unRAID systems. I dont want to mention any prices yet, since I dont have an answer from Sharkoon yet and I dont know what shipping and handling costs would be. Base price appears to be about $80-90, but like I said, I have no idea what kind of shipping and handling costs are gonna come yet. I should be able to get a better price if I order bulk. Basically this post is just to see who, if anybody, would be interested. This applies mainly to member from the US, but of course others, who have trouble getting this case and would want it are welcome to show their interest. So let me know and as soon as I know more I will post it here. @Mod: Could this perhaps be made sticky? Of course only if it doesnt go against forum rules.
  10. Thanks for the reply. Well then I guess I am on the right track. I did some more reading and I really like the 20 drive beast thats suggested on the HW compatibility page. I might just build that. Basically only the board changes for that setup. Oh an of course I would need a CPU. Thinking about the suggested i3 540, or maybe even smaller. But I do have a quick question regarding that board: LimeTech suggests unregistered and unbuffered RAM. If I read correctly the board manufacturer suggests registered RAM. So who is right??
  11. Hi All Been reading here on this forum for quite a while and I've decided to go the unRAID way (after not being satisfied with cost/performance of NAS Systems) The uses of the unRAID server: Stream HD/SD Video to Plex on a Mac mini Here is what I've come up with: Sharkoon Rebel 12 Economy Editon (lots of expansion room for later) SUPERMICRO X7SPA-HF Kingston ValueRAM, 2x2 GB, DDR2-667, CL5, SODIMM 6x Western Digital Caviar Green, 64MB, 2TB, SATA-II Later I plan to add at least 1 5in3 HD Cage and an 8 Port SATA-II Controler. That should get me started. I'm missing a PSU and am open for suggestions... How can I tell which have the much desired 12V single Rail? How many Watts would I need for about 10-12 HD like the ones mentioned above? Anybody see any conflicts with the start up config? Any other suggestions? Looking forward to your answers! David
