  1. I'm confused....I assumed my parity drive was valid before I replaced the bad disc...my last parity check had no errors. After rebuilding the failed drive I had 7 sync errors...and then I ran a parity check with no errors. What should I have done differently?
  2. Re-ran parity check without errors. All seems to be working. Thanks again...
  3. Update: the rebuild is finished. I now get a "parity is valid" message, which make me happy. There were 7 sync errors which has me somewhat concerned because I'm not sure exactly what this means. From the FAQ: Here is the screen shot: I think everything is fine now and I don't need to worry about the sync errors since the parity has been rebuilt and is now valid. Is this correct?
  4. Update: I stopped the array and powered down. Then reseated all drives and restarted. The "red balled disk" stayed red, but the cache drive lost the "unformatted" designation. I have replaced the bad drive and "a data rebuild is in progress. Thanks to all that helped. I will try the suggestion of reading from the bad disk on a windows machine to try and see what's up.
  5. Hi, Have been running Unraid for over 2 years without a single issue. Yesterday the server got turned off suddenly by some contractors doing work in the house. When I turned it back on I got two separate errors. See screen shot below. The first is that drive 10 has "issues." See screen shot below. Essentially it has a red ball beside it and show 576 errors. The last schedulled parity check on the first of the month was perfect. The second issue is that the cache drive now shows as unformatted. The cache drive previously worked great. I'm not sure how to proceed? Should I deal with the bad drive first and simply replace it? Utilizing these instruction from the FAQ: Or should I deal with cache drive first? I have never had a problem before so I'm quite nervous. As you can see I have quite a bit of data and I don't want to lose any of it including that which is on the bad drive.. Any advice appreciated. Also I received an "email" about this error from my machine titled: There is a whole bunch of technical information in the rest of the email which I can attach if needed.
  6. Well that's embarrassing.....I selected to format the drives and all is well. I updated my written instructions....so hopefully this won't happen next time. Thank you gentleman
  7. No they are brand new drives. When I added the drives, the other day, I watched the progress as they cleared. I went to bed when they were at about 85% (clearing). I assumed that when I awoke in the morning the would have appeared as formatted (per the instructions I used). I wonder if I should select the format option and see what happens? Currently the other drives appear to be working and so do my shares. Thanks
  8. Thanks for answering. I was getting nervous no one was interested....I'm actually quite worried because I have not experienced this problem before. Here is a screen shot. If you or anyone requires any further information please do not hesitate to ask.....As you can see from the screen shot the issue is disk 13 and 14 still appear as unformatted. Edit: If I select the option to the format option "I'm sure I want to do this" the the format becomes available...I guess I'm wondering if I should select the option to format again? If yes should I take the array off line.
  9. Help. Noob here. Last night I attempted to install two drives to my Stable 4.7 Unraid server. According to the instructions in front of me everything looked fine. With the array stopped: 1. I assigned the new drives from the devices page. 2. The correct drives appeared as unformatted 3. I formatted the drives and "watched" them clear overnight. 4. This morning the drives still appear as unformatted and the "format" option is greyed out? Edit: Also the unformatted drives now have the green dot beside them. Should I post a log file? I rebooted the served this morning to see if this would help....when I viewed the log file it just contains information since the reboot....Grrrrrr. Edit: Here are the log files from yesterday Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks syslog-20120101-111904.zip syslog-20120101-111946.zip
  10. I currently have the array stopped. I assigned the new HDDs in Unraid without apparent problems. I see in Unraid that the new HDDs have a blue dot beside them (all the rest are green). The command area states that the array is stopped and that two new HDDs have been found. This is the option that seems to be available: Should I start the array? The instructions I have printed in front of me state that at this stage of the process the drives should appear as "unformatted" and that I should select the format button? This is why I'm a little bit confused, because I do not see a format button? Any advice appreciated. Thanks Jason
  11. Just wanted to say thanks to all those involved in this project. I don't know anything about linux and barely anything about unraid yet managed to get this installed and working.
  12. From Putty I have to use the IP address... But straight from terminal on my MAC it connects fine with "tower" Thanks...I was also able to telnet in using tower.
  13. These links are no longer valid. I arrived here from the wiki.
  14. Thanks for the help. For some reason unknown I awoke to find an email telling me everything was fine with my server (unraid status alert PKG). So I then checked and was able to instal the APC and clean power modules. It is strange because I didn't change any settings from yesterday? I suppose the router has "kicked" in somehow....hopefully this is and enduring phenomenon. The reason I provided the alternative information was that I'm not sure how to send commands from my unraid box....yet. I'm a complete noob, the unraid box is new, and the WIKI is huge. I presume I have to telnet in from my mac? So much too learn....
  15. When I request to check for updates to Unmenu this is the error message I receive: This is what I have in my network setting: MAC address: 00:25:90:35:B6:A8 Obtain IP Address Automatically: NO IP Address: ***.***.*.*** Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically: Greyed out no DNS Server 1: 192.168.0.1 DNS Server 2: DNS Server 3: Thanks
  16. I am Noob! I just received a prebuilt and configured server (ver 1.7 pro) from a senior member here. It came configured with Unmenu version 1.4 rev 23. I'm having a few issues but just want to deal with one here. BTW I appreciate that this free software so any help is appreciated and I'll do my best to workthrough troubleshooting. I'm trying to install the APC package via Unmenu PKG Manager. When I navigate to the APC page via the "select" option and then attempt to download--->this is exactly what I see in my browser: Here is the message on the Unmenu Sys Log: BTW I am running my server using a fixed IP address to help my Mac connect over my local internet. Thanks
