  1. Because on web site: https://lime-technology.com/download/ it states: "Trial time can be extended within the WebGUI"
  2. I am using unRaid v 6.1.9 My trial has just expired but I cannot see any way within the GUI to extend the trial. Is the trial extension done in a different way?? Please advise.
  3. Sorry now I understand how you are saying to test private. However still having problems in creating sparse bundle disk image via SMB. I am using CCC v 4.1.1 with OS X Yosemite. My unRAID is unRAIDServer-6.0-beta15-x86_64. When I set up the CCC task under SMB with a sparse bundle disk image as the destination on the unRAID server, CCC generates the following error message: "The volume that you chose to save the disk image upon does not support the sparse bundle disk image format. Please choose another disk image format or save the disk image to another volume. If the system that hosts the underlying sharepoint supports AFP, you can try remounting that sharepoint via AFP to get support for sparsebundle disk images. Click on the "?" button below for additional information." The additional information is at: https://www.bombich.com/kb/ccc4/backing-up-disk-image So the result I am getting seems to be as expected. I don't understand how you are creating sparse bundle disk images under SMB unless either (i) your OS X predates Mavericks or (ii) you are creating sparse disk images rather than sparse bundle disk images?? In passing note that Time Machine uses sparse bundle disk image. However many thanks for your help.
  4. I am afraid that you haven't actually answered my question in my original post, viz: My question is which is correct?? Is the Note correct and Private is not in force?? Or the fact that I have been able to select Private means that Private is in force?? Is there a way to check whether Private is in force for AFP?? I use Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) for backups and I found that with SMB CCC could not create disk image on the unRAID server - I suppose that it is analogous to Time Machine which also requires AFP?? If I am enabling AFP I cannot see any requirement for SMB - am I missing something?? Many thanks.
  5. I am using unRAIDServer-6.0-beta15-x86_64 with Apple MacBook running Yosemite. Because I am an Apple user I want/need to activate ATP. I have -> Settings -> AFP and Enabled AFP Then I have -> Shares -> doubled clicked on Share -> AFP Security Settings -> Security In the Help notes it states: "Note: Private security is available only with ''Plus'' and ''Pro'' registration." I am only using the Trial (free) version but it has allowed me to choose "Private" in the Security settings and clicking "Apply" has seem to have worked!!?? My question is which is correct?? Is the Note correct and Private is not in force?? Or the fact that I have been able to select Private means that Private is in force?? Is there a way to check whether Private is in force for AFP?? I was going to disable SMB (as I have AFP). Any problems generally in disabling SMB?? Many thanks.
  6. Many thanks for the posts - all very helpful. Just a couple of clarifications: 1) If I access Disk on unRAID over LAN using root to login then (i) if Disk is set to either Secure or Private then root will have no write access - correct?? Can I give root write access for either Secure or Private; (ii) if Disk is set to Secure then any user (including root) will have read access - correct?? (iii) if Disk is set to Private is there a way to give root read access?? 2) Is there a way to view contents of Parity disk?? Perhaps there is never a need to do so?? Many thanks.
  7. I am using unRAIDServer-6.0-beta15-x86_64 with MacBook running Yosemite. I have some general queries to which I cannot find definitive answers on the web. These are: 1) SMB Security Settings – Export (a) If Export set to “No” then nothing can access the disk/flash/share – correct?? (b) If Export set to “Yes (hidden)” - how would I access disk/flash/share from my Mac if I know its name?? 2) My array is just two disks – one as Parity and the other as Disk1. I am just using unRAID to backup from my Mac. Then: (a) There is no point creating Shares – correct?? Any disadvantages/problems in not creating shares?? (b) There is no point creating other users (still have root) – correct?? © Root has full read/write privileges on unRAID by default – correct?? (On Dashboard Tab under Users there are dashes under Read and Write for root user??] (d) I can run backup tasks using root login to give access to unRAID – correct?? Any disadvantages/problems doing this?? 3) If the disks have spun down – time elapsed under “Default spin down delay” – will the disks automatically spin up if backup app on Mac seeks to access unRAID?? Many thanks.
  8. Sorry - it was just not available in the tab I was looking at. Present in other tabs. Though in fact there is not much content in Help as yet?? Thanks.
  9. I have unRAIDServer-6.0-beta15-x86_64 with an Apple MacBook running Yosemite. In the Lime Tech document "Upgrading to unRAID v6" under the section "Meeting the new GUI" it states: The new Help feature, mentioned above, is accessed through the Help button on the Tab bar at the top. This button is a "toggle" and turns the Help 'on' and 'off'. This feature can help you as you begin to tailor v6 to your personal preferences, such as in setting up the built-in features of email notifications, UPS settings, and many others. 'Help' will provide you with a full description of what each setting choice means or exactly what information is required, in the case of a parameter box. When I click on "Help" nothing happens. I cannot find a way to access the Help function described above. Please advise. Many thanks.
  10. For unRAID root user what are the password rules - max number of characters, any not allowed characters?? I found a post that suggested that $ is not allowed?? Presumably same rules apply to other created users??
  11. As feedback: I disconnected device that contained card reader - card reader actually has 4 slots. Device actually also contained 4 USB ports. Now able to start array. Therefore CD Rom cannot count as a device as I have 2 internal disks and if my 2 CD Rom drives counted as devices then I would be over 3 device limit for trial. Thanks for all your help. PS: I have another issue relating to passwords but have started new thread as it is a new topic: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=39660.0
  12. For unRAID root user what are the password rules - max number of characters, any not allowed characters?? I found a post that suggested that $ is not allowed?? Presumably same rules apply to other created users?? I boot up unRAID server, change the password. If I then exit Safari not remembering passwords, restart safari, go to unRAID password is required. If I then shut down uRAID server. Then restart unRAID server when I go to unRAID no password is required. I am sure this is not meant to happen. I have a display attached to unRAID server which showed: Tower login: cp: cannot create regular file ‘’boot/config/password’: Read-only file system cp: cannot create regular file ‘’boot/config/shadow’: Read-only file system cp: cannot create regular file ‘’boot/config/smbpasswd’: Read-only file system Grateful for resposes/help. Many thanks.
  13. Assuming that for me the problem is device limits due to card reader/CD roms - nobody has suggested another cause - does unRAID v5 work in the same way as v6 in respect of device limits??
  14. I should have been clearer. My understanding is that the array will indeed refuse to start and give you a warning => AND offer to repartition the drives to stay within the 250GB limit. No data is going to be lost without an explicit warning. You could simply not do the repartitioning and buy a Basic license instead => in fact I suspect that's what many folks will do at that point. I am simply unable to start my array. There no warning with an option to repartition. The start button is just greyed out with messages as described above?? Does it matter that the disks have data on them when I an trying to start unRAID - it is not data that I need to preserve??
  15. The card reader only has one slot therefore only counts as one device. The question remains to be answered??
