  1. I have several PCH media players all utilizing media files stored on unRAID. I use my Windows box to run the YAMJ script but the output files are then stored and accessed on my unRAID box.
  2. I don't know what your requirements are but you might want to look into the Popcorn Hour VTEN http://cloudmedia.com/products/popcornhour/vten. It can handle several different codecs, including gapless FLAC. It also supports audio pass-through so your AV receiver handles the audio decoding since most receivers have higher end DACs. And it doesn't actually need server software to be running on your unRAID box. It accesses files with SMB or NFS. It also handles video including 4K and 3D, and while the video player does not need a server either, the VTEN can also run a PLEX client, and there is an app for Android and iPad tablets. There is a forum for users of the various Popcornhour players at http://www.networkedmediatank.com/. There is a wireless dongle available for it as well, but my experiences with it have not been too good. Wireless just doesn't have the capacity for high bit-rate HD video, although audio works fine. They currently show a ship date of May 6th, but I bought mine on Amazon.com. It's a little more expensive there but it ships quicker and Amazon is really good about returns in case you have problems or just don't like it.
  3. Be aware that on the Nanoxia cases, if you want to put cages in the 5.25 drive bays, you'll have to remove the upper door. I have the Deep Silence 5 and the door completely seals off any airflow to the upper drive bays and the drives get very hot. The door is easy to remove though. I have the huge Nanoxia 6, I ended up taking a binder style paper clip to the door to prop the door open slightly. Crude, but effective I suppose. I was thinking more along the lines of building a bumper by placing a dab of RTV on the non-hinged side of the panel and letting it cure fully before replacing the door. Or perhaps those little rubber adhesive backed feet for small electronic items. Nothing sticks out very far and (hopefully) there will be enough gap to allow airflow to the drives.

  5. Don't drop the hard drives on the floor.
  6. In that same vein there's the ATX Mid-Tower case http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=114&cp_id=11401&cs_id=1140106&p_id=10578&seq=1&format=2 at Monoprice for $68 which holds 8 x 3.5" drives internally, has 3 external 5.25" bays and is actually a pretty decent case, but it doesn't support Extended ATX or SSI EEB, so if you're getting one of the larger server boards, it's probably not for you. But if you use an ATX board, it might be worth considering. I actually have one of these and my UnRAID box was living in it until I went nuts for the Dual Xeon setup.
  7. I settled on the Cooler Master Cosmos II case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119252 as it fits 13 3.5" drives or 18 with a 5 in 3 cage. Plus I went with the ASRock EP2C602-4L/D16 mainboard and the CM case holds the SSI EEB format without any modification. However, this thing is HUGE!! It makes my HAF-X look tiny in comparison, and not exactly cheap, but well worth it IMO.
  8. Ooops! I did run it, but before I copied the old drive over. I just ran it again, and it boots up just fine. Now to replace my original license and then get the Pro upgrade. Thanks for the speedy reply! EDIT: All went well. I am now the much poorer owner of a UnRAID Pro server with dual Xeon E5-2670 processors. Thanks for the help!
  9. I just got done building a new UnRAID server after falling for the Xeon good deal and I figured while I'm upgrading everything else, I may as well upgrade my thumb drive from a 1 gig to a 16 gig drive and also go from a Plus to a Pro license. However, I've run into a snag. I copied the old USB drive to the new drive (using windows) but the server gives me a boot error when I try to start it up. I installed a fresh trial version of UnRAID and it boots just fine but I don't want to lose my configuration by starting again from scratch. The replacement license instructions tell me to "Restore a complete backup of your previous flash device to the new device" which I did. Then it tells me to boot up, which doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
  10. Just to add my two cents, since the update to 6.1.7 my unraid box has shut down twice. The really weird part is that both times, it was a clean shutdown, not a crash.
  11. Those are being sold by newegg for goHardDrive. GoHardDrive is kind of iffy. I've bought a few drives from them and they have all been reliable (so far) and passed preclear with no problem. The one DOA I've had was replaced promptly with shipping paid by them... Both ways. However, the 2 TB Hitachi Ultrastars I've bought while listed as "New" all showed SMART tests logged at ca. 15,000 hours although power on hours in the SMART data showed zero hours. Apparently they have a way of resetting SMART data on some drives. When I called them out on it they insisted that they were "New OEM drives" and couldn't understand how they were tested at 15,000 hours but offered a $20.00 (each) refund and I keep the drives, or a full refund if I returned them. A bit of searching on the web showed that this is S.O.P for them and they've been doing it for a while. I kept them as with the $20.00 discount, it was a very good price and so far after six months in my unRAID box, they're working fine. I'm running 7 of them and have 2 precleared spares. On the other hand, I bought some 4 TB white label drives and the data in SMART shows that they were actually Western Digital RE drives and seemed to be brand new. I have 3 running with 1 precleared spare. They do have a one year warranty and I figure that as with most hard drives, they will either die within the first year, or they will last for many years. So, having said that, $150.00 is a decent price for a 6 TB drive but know what you're getting into.
  12. On Dashboard, under System Status, where it says "flash : log : docker" what is the percent used for log, the middle number? I've noticed the same thing, however although I'm not 100% certain, it seems to me I had the same problem on 6.1.1 And it's not most of the time, I've never gotten the logs to work. And for what it's worth, my log percentage on the status page is 22%
