  1. hi, I thought I'd keep it simple and use the basic (extremely inflexible) form of filesharing, even though I have a plus license. I was hoping to use FTP or some non-samba file protocol as administrator to add files, and make all my user shares read only, and not ever export single disks or the flash drive, unless I needed to briefly. However, ftp access and file chmodding seems cumbersome to the inexperienced linux user - would you recommend I use user level permission and anonymous.sh to allow random anonymous read-only access and the exceptions field to allow a single user (namely the admin, myself) to read-write? I like the idea of locking one protocol down to read-only for any 'ol anonymous, and another protocol for adding files from an admin standpoint, but if the file permissions are a problem, of course I would like to get samba set up properly. It just seems it would be nice to be able to FTP to /mnt/diskX and see what's there. can i tweak users or groups to make this work without chmodding every time? thanks for your patience with a nuwb.
  2. yes, just don't format them after they are done being precleared thanks the only way i would accidentally format them is by first assigning them to a slot on the unraid basic 'devices' page, then hitting format on the main page, right? preclear without any additional switches won't do any formatting, as i understand it
  3. forgive me if this is a naive question, but can I run a couple of preclears on a different system, using unraid basic, and then add them to my main unraid plus system? i realize this would take the stress testing of cables/controllers out of the equation, but the drives shouldn't care what system they're precleared on, right?
