  1. I've read through all the pages of this post.

I can't get the cert to generate. I'm trying to use duckdns.org for DDNS

The log shows it failed connecting to 443 on the duckdns.org domain. I of course don't own that :)

    URL is duckdns.org
    Subdomains are xxx

    challenge

I have the router forwarding 443 to 443 of the host to 443 of the container.

    thanks,jb

  2. I'll checkout the links, but I want to make sure I'm assuming correctly.

Should I be able to use the crashplan docker on unraid to be a remote backup for another PC without needing to configure my router/firewall at home?

I'll stop using the mobile app because I only plan to do PC backups to the unraid box both well on the same network and remotely.

    thanks,jb

  3. installed the crashplan container last night. it started and I ran a backup (no idea where it went because this was my first time using it)

I've installed the mobile app on my phone and logged in with the same account. But I doesn't show any devices. Even when I was home and on the same network

Do I need to forward any ports on my firewall to get crashplan to register correctly?

  4. I'm looking to test some docker containers to do backups (remote and mobile)

I don't think any of our standard dell workstations have space for two drives.

I've been out of desktop support for so long :)

  5. I want to test unraid before I purchase hardware for it.

I had an old Dell 2950 but none of the drives show up when I boot. I was told the perc6 does work with unraid.

I have room in my ESX dev environment to spin up a virtual machine but it looks like I have to map an individual drive or pass through a controller. This ESX server is running a bunch of other Dev vms I can't disrupt them.

If I find an unused Dell workstation with a single drive. Will that work to test unraid, just boot of the usb and have one drive no parity if I'm just testing?

    thanks,jb

  6. I've been digging through the forums today and I found post about the 6/i but then they start talking about LSI cards and needing to flash to a IT version of the firmware.

The Dell firmware on this card is 1.22.12-0952 and the bios for the card is 2.04.00

I'm sure that's not the latest and I should also flash the system bios to the latest because I can't get the usb to be the default boot device. I have to pick it manually.

I'm just looking to test unraid with this system and decide if its worth buying new hardware for it vs keeping it simple and getting a QNAP [ducks]

    thanks,jb

  7. I'm looking to build a small unraid server instead of a synology or qnap.

I'd like the small box build, going to start with just two disks and add as I need.

I want to run plex and maybe Sickbeard and couchpotato. As well as something to backup my families mobile phone photos and FIL's computer remotely ( I was thinking owncloud)

Here's the two options I've came up with so far. Looking for feedback :)

  8. Remote access and backuping up a remote computer would be on my list of reasons to build an unraid, what do you feel about remote access if used with owncloud and a SSL cert?

I want to backup my mobile photos on the go and backup families computers for them.

    When you say.

    2) Access to files remotely

Do you mean from out side your network? If so honestly its something I wouldn't recommend for security reasons. Your data is to valuable to dangle out there and take the chance of somebody else tinkering with.

  9. I want to build something that I can run plex server, backup my two home computers, two mobile phones (photos only) and 1 remote computer. I'd prefer not to have to use VPN for the remote computer.

I think I can use unraid with plex server (clients are X1 and roku) and owncloud to satisfy these needs. Wondering what others think about owncloud and using it to backup remote computers?

Can I map the owncloud backup files to a unraid volume to be shared internal via SMB?

Does owncloud version files? Can I then backup the owncloud and files from plex to azure or amazon with unraid?

I'm looking to keep it small maybe a 5 drive case starting with just 2, then later add a cache drive and more storage drives.

    Thanks,jb
