Trurl - Correct, I would resync it as an unassigned device. I could then empty the disk and add it to the array normally. I assume the main benefit to waiting is that it may take longer to rsync the data because it's having to update the parity drive as things are being moved over. Currently, I'm moving data off of one of the disks so the recovery place can use it as a donor drive. I'd like to get parity back on the array and backups restarted. We had backups, but only the critical files.

Hey all, I wanted to get some advice on how to proceed. Unfortunately, I lost 2 drives on the same day due to head failures in a 1 parity drive array. It was the parity and data drive. I have a 50/50 chance of the data drive being recovered. The new drive replacements have arrived, but I'm still waiting on recovery of the bad data drive to see if I can get things back. Even if it can be recovered, it will be put onto one of the new drives. Are there any downsides to creating a new config now to get the array back online then rsyncing the data into the array once it's recovered?
