  1. @Bash: I am subject to current hardware supplies in Sydney, Australia. M1015 (IBM ServeRAID M1015) is about the same price as IBM ServeRAID M5110. (https://lenovopress.com/tips0857?cm_mc_uid=52222813755714501759673&cm_mc_sid_50200000=1452924471). The problem is that M1015 is from eBay so doesn't really come with the same warranties and a 3 week wait. M5110 is a better card despite the issue posted on this forum regarding this card being 'quasi' JBOD and not possibly working with FreeNAS. The HP H240 is better than the M5015 card and is also the same price. I already have 24 Windows formatted drives. And prefer to use Windows 7. This is the background to my question. @CHBMB: Not sure what you mean, but thanks. I assume 'unraid', noraid and JBOD all mean the same thing. <<-- [EDIT] - Lol, just researched into it. unRaid is this sites oferrings. Looks interesting actually. Thanks!
  2. Because you can not run an expander alone. Need to have a controller that it plugs into.
  3. Hello, Please give me advice if the following build combination is compatible: Norco RPC-4224 4U-Rackmount Server Chassis (http://www.norcotek.com/product/rpc-4224/) HP H240 12Gb (http://www8.hp.com/au/en/products/server-host-bus-adapters/product-detail.html?oid=6995464) Intel SAS 6GB Expander Card RES2SV240 which includes 6 cables. *http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/servers/raid/raid-controller-res2sv240.html) 1.) My concern is if the HP H240 HBA card will work with the RES2SV240 expander. The reason for this combination is due to pricing and availability. At this stage, I am not looking for any RAID. And merely just 24*4TB JBOD. 2.) Also, do I need to use Windows Server? Will this work on Windows 7? 3.) Will FreeNas work with this setup if I head down this path? Thank you in advance, Ian.
