Hi all!
I have been looking into building a NAS setup for a while now. I did as much research on my own as I could but I want to double check this build.
AMD FX processors fully support virtualization with AMD-V and AMD-Vi as well as ECC memory support. Unlike Intel's offerings, I don't need a 'server-grade' chip/board to support ECC memory. Yes?
Unfortunately, I can never find clarification if a particular motherboard supports ECC unbuffered/registered.
This is what I'm planning on purchasing:
AMD FX-8320E 3.2GHz 8-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Kingston 4GB (1 x 4GB) Registered DDR3-1333 Memory x4
Can anyone confirm if this combination will support ECC unbuffered/registered?
Opinions? Suggestions?
Ideally, I would want this server to be running 24/7. While lower power consumption would be better for that, I figured this would be a less expensive investment to toy around with. Additionally, I would like to throw in a video card for some gaming down the road.
