  1. Hello,

Been using unraid for a few months with a windows VM as my primary computer. I have a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD as a cache drive. When nzbget starts unpacking large nzbs all the other dockers become unresponsive(web interfaces do not load), Windows VM becomes slow, sometimes even the unraid web interface does not load quickly.

I imagine unpacking the large nzbs is reaching the SSD's bottleneck. Is there any solution to this, Can I use a separate SSD to run my Windows VM and other dockers?

  2. Hello All,

I played with Unraid before but never really set it up all the way. Decided to spend some time and setup the array with windows VM and gpu passthrough.

However when I go to setting and enable VM's the status of VM manager is Stopped. It does not change to running no matter how many times I disable and enable vm support.

Attached logs. Any help is appreciated.

  3. Was the diagnostic made after you started the VM or before? If before, please start the VM and run the diagnostics again.

That makes sense, attached diagnostics zip with the vm running.

Have you checked if the keyboard works in unraid console?

Yep, works in Unraid GUI mode and console.

    -

How did you connect the keyboard? On USB3 ports, only one cable should be connected. On USB2 both cables connected.[\quote]

Tried both USB 2 and 3 ports in both 1 and 2 configurations.

    -

Have you connected the mouse in the pass-through port? If so, please remove it and try again.

When the mouse is connected in Passthrough, mouse works, keyboard doesn't. Same as when it is connected to a separate USB port.

    -

Are you running any USB hubs? or connected directly?

Connected directly at the back to the 2.0 ports.

    -

Please post the output of the below command when connected through ssh to the server. From before starting the VM and after.

    Before starting the VM:

Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0781:5583 SanDisk Corp.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
    Bus 001 Device 007: ID 1b1c:1b37 Corsair
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1532:0043 Razer USA, Ltd
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

    After logging into windows VM:

Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0781:5583 SanDisk Corp.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
    Bus 001 Device 009: ID 1b1c:1b37 Corsair
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1532:0043 Razer USA, Ltd
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

It looks like the Corsair device id is changing after the VM is started.

  5. Hello,

So I just bought and setup latest Unraid beta, installed Windows 10 using VNC. I passed through my graphics card and my Razer mouse and Corsair Keyboard, infact I specifically got a different brand keyboard because I heard Unraid has trouble passing through devices with same vendor.

My keyboard lights up  but doesn't work. Any help is appreciated.

  6. Thanks everyone, I should have all the hardware by tomorrow.

I have one more question, I am still on the fence if I should virtualize Windows 10 and go through the hassle of passing USB ports, hotplugging issues but the concept of NAS and gaming in one machine is very attractive.

I guess my question is, I want to do a test run like this:

Boot up Unraid - > Format and Assign a SSD as cache without assigning any other drives -> Install Windows 10 and do everything necessary with and test some games and other applications I need.

Can I do this or do I should I have a precleared drive as a data drive assigned to run the test?

  7. Long story short, I purchased an EVGA 1070 on impulse. Now I need to figure out the rest of the components for a gaming Unraid build. I am a novice.

    Budget: 800-900 dollars.

CPU: Is i7 6700k a good choice, seems to be very popular among gamers. In conjunction with Unraid is there something else I should look at?

Motherboard: I am looking for a motherboard that can handle 6-8 drives.

Case: Good looking silent case that can fit 8 drives with good airflow.

    Power Supply: ?

    Thanks.
