  1. I am looking for a simple way to have my Unraid server backup certain folders to a network drive say once a week. I don't want them compressed or encrypted in any way, just a simple copy. I have thought of using something like Free File Sync running on a PC. But I don't really need sync and I would rather have it run on the server.

  2. I damaged  my current flash drive (bent it) but it still works. I tried making two different ones today with the USB Creator tool, neither one will boot, says it is not a bootable media. One was a Duracell 4GB  and the other a OCZ Rally 2 8GB.

Is there a trick too it? Are not all flash drives supported?

  3. I am on 6.5.3 and Unraid has run smoothly for along time with 0 down time. In the last couple of months I have a bunch of cases where I go to access the server and it isn't running, powered off. I start it back up and the GUI comes up with the array "Stopped. Unclean shutdown detected." So I start the array back up and all is fine until it looses power again. I thought the problem was my UPS acting up or triggering a shut down so I completely removed it from the UPS and the problem still exists. Of course after the shut down the log starts over so that doesn't seem to show me anything. Is their a way to diagnose this? I don't know it is Unraid or something physical with the server.

  4. This is really starting to annoy me and never used to be an issue until a couple of years ago. Trying to access my server from some devices keeps asking for a user name and password. I have no users on my server other then root and don't want any passwords. I don't even know what to enter because their is no password. Almost seems like Unraid is forcing you to use them? It is really messing with my auto back ups, it will run fine for a long time and then all the sudden it wants a password again.

  5. Well I did some more testing on this this morning and found out something else. I went directly into my router at work (Sonicwall TZ300) and ran a ping test to my unraid box at home. It will not ping from the router, which if I am correct it can not have anything to do with the PC's or windows server at work. From the router I can ping every other PC, printer, network storage at home. I just can't ping the Unraid box, any idea why this would be? Does Unraid log anything if it refuses a connection?

  6. I have a site to site VPN from home to my office. All computers at the office run through a windows 2016 server and are on a domain. My Unraid box is at home, 6.5.3, and is not on the domain, just a workgroup for home.

For some reason I can not access Unraid from work, not by IP, Name or the GUI. I can access other computers at home and network back up drive at home, seems to be only Unraid. I can not ping Unraid either. So I don't know if this is a issue with the work computers being on a domain or an Unraid issue.

My Unraid is really simple no Docker or VM's, the only plugin is recycle bin. No users all shares set a public. SMB is set to Workgroup. I know this use to work but it has been awhile since I have done it, so I don't know if the issue started when we went to a windows server at work or if it is something else.

Some files will not be added to the recycle bin with certain file extensions or zero length files.  Give me some examples of files/file extensions that don't show up in the deleted files.

Please realize that when the recycle bin is started, it is up to Unraid to restart the samba service to enable the recycle bin.  It can take several minutes for that to happen.  Until samba is restarted to enable the recycle bins on the shares, deleting files will not show up in the recycle bin.

All the files were JPG but I think a couple might have had a "0" files size because they were corrupt and I got rid of them, maybe that caused the problem. I tried again this morning on another bunch of JPG files that have been on the server for along time and all 5 showed up in the bin after deleting. So I will do some more testing on it and see what happens.

  8. I just installed this for the first time as I just lost a bunch of files from an accidental delete, figure this would solve that in the future. I am on 6.3.5 and I can't get it to work. It is enabled and show . files is on. After deleting test files the recycle bin says empty still.

Not sure what logs need posting to help.

Well it just kinda worked, deleted 5 files and only 2 showed up in the recycle folder.

  9. Joe,  Thanks for the quick reply (as always)

One last (Ha Ha) slightly off topic question.

It appears that it takes about 8 hours to read a full 2 TB disk.  If I do a parity sheck on an array with 1 parity disk and 2 data disks all disks being identical, should I expect a completion time (approximately) of 8*3=24 hours?

I don't think it works that way. I have 5 - 1.5TB drives (one it parity) and it takes about 8 hours for a parity check

  10. Just ran a Preclear on a disk and it has been a year or so since I did one. Could anyone take a quick look at the smart findings and see if their is anything to worry about? I will start to copy a bunch of data to the drive tonight.
