  1. Hello, Just wondering if I am able to add a cache drive to my unregistered free version of unraid 5. I am running 3 drives in the array right now (1 parity, 2 data). Can I add a cache drive to this without buying a license?
  2. I'm about to upgrade from 4.7 to the latest 5.0. Any tips for me? Is it possible to go back to 4.7 after upgrading to 5? Thanks
  3. Currently I am running unraid 4.7 with unMenu installed. I have around a 60gb size iTunes library running off of the server. For some reason songs in iTunes will not play off the server. Itunes will play the first 2 to 3 seconds of the song and then skip to the next track. Through some research I've learned that iTunes doesn't like smb shares for some reason. Here's what is strange to me though. I also run Plex on a mac mini which runs all it's media from the unraid server. I installed the iTunes plugin on Plex and all my music streams fine over the network through Plex, which is essentially running off iTunes. I really would like to stream my music directly from iTunes especially to my iPhone to have my own cloud where I can stream my whole iTunes library to my phone from anywhere. This currently works by using the plex app for ios but It isn't compatible with my clarion dvd deck in my truck that accesses my ipod on my phone and not the plex app. I need to be able to stream my itunes library directly from my ipod in my phone for this to work. Is this possible or do I have to wait for unraid 5.0? Thanks for any help.
  4. damn that's what I was afraid of.. Any word on when 5 will have a stable release?
  5. Ok I've searched this and can't seem to find a solution to this problem. I have my Itunes library on my unraid server and when I point to it from within Itunes it sees it and I can copy to it. But I can't play files in Itunes from it? It plays the first couple seconds of a song and then goes to the next song from music. My podcasts lockup and won't stream at all. Movies won't stream either. If I go to the itunes directory through finder on my mac on the server I can play all these files with quicktime, but Itunes will not play them? I've even tried creating an alias to the itunes directory on the server in my local music folder with no luck either.
  6. ok I installed unMenu and setup the apc backup and now the server shuts down on it's own after being on battery power for 5 minutes. Works like a charm. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
  7. All of the files that you need will be in: http://tower:8080/pkg_manager It's the second package I think on the list... Thanks, but I believe that is using unmenu. I do not want to install unmenu at all if I don't have to. Is there a way to get the files without using the unmenu repository? I'm not sure, but is there a specific reason as to why you don't want to install unMenu? I don't want to add anything else extra to my server that may cause unnecessary problems. A buddy of mine tried out unmenu and had nothing but problems. I'm perfectly happy with the unraid interface the way it is. I just want to add the apc backup shutdown feature.

  9. is there anyone who's done this or can point me to a forum or post that has some more information? And where I can get the files I need?
  10. I now have my server plugged into one. Is there a way to get my server to power down when the power goes out without using unMenu? Or is this the only option?
  11. try pulling the plug from the power supply for a few seconds and plug it back in and try. I had a faulty power supply that this seemed to work with
  12. Well it looks like I only have problems with the server if I run the ram in dual channel mode on the motherboard. I can run both sticks of memory successfully if I run them both in single channel mode. Not sure why this would be but I don't think running dual channel over single channel is going to make that much of a performance difference anyway. Thanks for all the help guys.
  13. The network ip range changing is due to me changing out my router during this whole process. Replaced a dlink router with an Airport Extreme. I had my ip on the server setup static to begin with and I still encountered the same problems. Anyway I think I may have solved the problem. Even though my ram checked out in the memtest ok, I thought I'd try pulling a 2gb stick out of the board and Voila it works flawlessly now. I'm not holding my breath but I've managed to copy over 100gigs so far with no problems. Is it a problem running two sticks of ram instead of one you think? I can't see the ram being bad but I have no other way to test it. Looks like my server is going to be running 1 2gb stick now instead of 2 2gb sticks.
  14. well replaced the power supply and the unraid server is still crashing when I try to copy large amounts of data over to it at one time. Tried copying over around 40gb and it makes it 3/4 of the way through and crashes and the server then becomes unresponsive. The web interface is no longer accessible and the server on the network is not either. I must then do a hard reset to get it to come back online. I have ran a check disk command on the hard drives with no data corruption or errors. I have 2 tb wd drives and have not activated the parity drive yet until I get all my data copied over. I've run memtest overnight with no errors to speak of. All my hardware is listed in my sig. Could it be the brand of ram I'm using or is it more the motherboard? I'm not sure what to do next? I've attached my last syslog. syslog.txt
