  1. I'm planning a new unraid box, but there's been so many changes to UNRAID since my last major upgrade (2016?) The new box will have the following drives: -(5) 18TB Exos -(2) 1TB NVME -(4) 500GB SSDs My initial plan was to have the main array using the EXOS, a mirrored 1TB NVME cache pool for apps and another mirrored cache pool using the SSDs for ingestion. Any recommendations or best practices, ZFS usage, etc?
  2. @WeeboTEch > Oh I travel alot less then my wife, so i haven't consider a board with IPMI. I currently just VNC to a desktop in the house and access the unraid GUI that way. @garycase > It truly has. It's one of the better tech investments I made a few years ago. I restart the servers every 3-6 months due to power outages, dust cleaning etc. I still haven't decided if i'm going to sell off the old server (wouldn't net much), or just keep it going.
  3. First off, I'd like to thank Unraid for fulfilling all of my home's storage and media needs since 2008. It has truly been a boring and uneventful time, and that's a GOOD thing! I've upgraded a few things along the way: large HDs, move from a tower case to a Rack, but largely my build has remained the same. I'll even admit that my unraid server is running 4.6-rc3 (lazy, i know). As a self confessed hardware geek, it was initially hard, not to tweak, upgrade and change settings, but I finally treated unraid as an appliance and not a workstation/desktop and it has been worth the piece of mind for my data. But its time for an upgrade... Here's my first Unraid build straight from an old Newegg order: --------------------- 1 x AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz Socket AM2 45W Dual-Core 1 x Lexar JumpDrive FireFly (Blue) 1GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) Model JDFF1GB-431 1 x GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2 AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 740G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard 2 x Athena Power BP-SATA3051B 3 x 5.25" Bays to 5 x 3.5" HD (SATA) Backplane 1 x COOLER MASTER Centurion 590 RC-590-KKN1-GP Black SECC / ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 2 x Open Box: PROMISE SATA300 TX4 PCI SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card Current Drives: ------------------- 1TB WD parity 7x640GB Greenies 2x500GB Seagates 2x320GB WDs Two years ago I scored an outstanding deal on (2) of these 4U cases and decided to drop the 3x5.25s & tower case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147155 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132035 I also dropped the promise cards in favor or some Cheap Monoprice SATA PCI-E cards (it was a good speed boost) ==================== Reason's for my upgrade: -I decided to finally start buying Blu Rays instead of DVDs, so I need much more space!!!! -I read a few years ago about gigabyte bios issues + unraid and have wanted to get rid of the board for a while -My wife and I travel more so I'm considering a private VPN tunnel and "light" transcoding (only one of us travels at a time) so we can watch our recorded TV and movies anywhere -An empty 4U case with no purpose sucks Here's the current items I have on order: ASRock B75 PRO3 Intel Celeron G1610 (2) SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 SAS (5) 3TB WD Reds (Starting Capacity) 4GB memory Intel Gigabit NIC The 4U case I have only holds 12HDs, but I've done some creative cutting of acrylic and old mouse pads to allow for vertical HD mounting of 22-24 drives in two rows (backblaze style). Once everything comes in I'll post some pics in the UCD forum. Thanks again Unraid...now where did I put that second Unraid USB stick??
  4. Darn.....no Dice I created the New "MovieVault" share with settings split level 1 and most free. I then used MC to test copy 10 folders from the "Movie" Share to the new "MovieVault" share. Each of the 10 folders was split across my 8th and 9th drives. Sigh, anyone else have any ideas on how to get these folders rejoined?
  5. ahhhh..okay (not entirely sure what you just said) Are you saying if I move the from /mnt/user/Movies to my new Movie holder /mnt/user/MovieVault, the system won't recombine the folder structures? If not, can you recommend a fast way to do this. I really don't want to manually combine each folder at a time.
  6. Hum...So in my example above, the Disk is level 0, the movies director is lvl 1,, the named moved folders are lvl 2 and the TS folders are lvl 3. So If I make the new Share folder with split lvl 1, then move the items into the new new share, it should recombined the items? I guess I'm going to turn off the parity drive for now to else this is going to take forever...
  7. I've had my Unraid server up and running for a few months and overall i'm 110% with my purchase. I've currently backed up about 550 of my movies and just noticed my split levels are off because my TS files are spanning multiple disk and Id like to setup it up so a Movie is always contained on a single disk. All my movies are backed up via TS folders. I have a share called Movies using Split Level 2 and Most Free allocation method. It's obvious now these weren't the right settings to keep entire folders structures created under the movies share on single disks. I've read the post about this topic, but don't want to make another 500 Movie mistake and decided to jsut ask about the best settings. So first question...What split level settings and allocations methods should I be using? I don't know if it matters, but I have 9 Drives in this array from 320GB - 640GB I'd like the folder structure to be something like this: DISK 0 --Movies ----300 ------Audio_TS ------Video_TS ----Rocky ------Audio_TS ------Video_TS DISK 1 --Movies ----Batman Begins ------Audio_TS ------Video_TS ----Michael Clayton ------Audio_TS ------Video_TS ----Rocky V ------Audio_TS ------Video_TS Second Question...how do I clean up this big mess I've made? Is it possible to create a brand new share named DVD & Movies with the correct allocation methods, log into the unraid box via putty and move everything from one share to the other. I was hoping while it moved the movies, it would move the files on the drives using he corrected allocation methods you tell me about from question 1.
  8. Just adding another vote for the gigabyte board for the board...I'm using it with a cool running AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz CPU. Not a single issue to report
  9. in a word.....awhile. (that maybe 2 words). To speed up the process, you can **copy** the information without parity enabled then build the parity after the transfer is complete. Be sure all your information is intact and functional before you delete it off the desktop pc and you should be set.
  10. After the server is setup (shares, allocation methods, eetc), transfer your files over your network from your desktop(s) to the unraid server.
  11. They worked for me over an hour ago and they still are working for me with 3 different web browsers....
  12. Removed the first and installed this one, everything is working great. No more changing or broken links
  13. I missed you post but was able to install the version listed in the install post, Should I remove it in preparation for the one you are about to release?
  14. Now that we're past that, can anyone give me some easy instructions to install this on clean v4.4 of unraid. (like step 1, step2, step3, etc) I've read through the thread and see different packages, installation versions and references to other items and don't want to mess anything. Thanks in advance
  15. Hey, can you let me know what type of throughput you get with that card. I considered it be decided to go with 2 refurb Promise TX4s from the egg.
