Kizer:
That makes sense. The problem is copying files on the same disk on the server. The cache drive may have something to do with it, but I am not sure. The other unusual aspect of this is even if I tried to rename a folder on the network drive it crashed.
The ultimate question is ... drum roll... How do I fix it? Did I have too many explorer windows open?

I am running unRaid 4.7 on a server built by Queegtech. MSI 880GMA-E45 mobo with a Sempron 145 processor and 4GB Ram in a Azza case with a 520watt power supply. I have 3-2TB Samsung drives (HD204UI) one parity 2 data and a 1TB Samsung cache drive (F2H103SJ). MY PC is XP Pro with all the latest updates.
I am simply opening two windows to copy data from the PC to the Server. That seems to work fine. When I try to do anything in the server window like create a new folder and then change the name it crashes the PC. I can delete folders without crashing.
If you need any other info please let me know.

I have attached both hard wired and wireless from a laptop and it seems to be working OK. Now I am completely baffled.
Any suggestions on what is causing this?

There are a few items in the syslog that may provide some insight to the problem. It may be simply a problem with permissions. I have my videos spread across 4 hard disks and once I move them to the server I need to be able to restructure where they are stored. This is a constantly evolving process as we are constantly learning better ways to improve our file structure for ease of management. I have become very concerned that unRaid may not meet my needs.
I have deleted a lot of the routine copy commands and only included those that were highlighted or did not involve copy files to the server. This is a Word doc. I will test with another PC in the AM and post the results.

I've continued to test other basic operations. If I try to cut and paste a folder on the network drive or use the windows move command it causes a reboot of my PC. I can see if there is an error that it would be reported as such. Why is this causing my PC to reboot?

I have a strange problem. I have finished setting up my system and I am trying to create the file folders on my network drive.
I select the drive from network places and click on create new folder. Works fine. When I try to rename that folder and hit enter. My PC reboots.

One question regarding the cache drive.
I am using a 1TB drive as a cache drive which is overkill. Can I partition this drive and use 500 GB for other data such as backups from my windows PC?

Thanks!
That clears up a lot of questions. I used Unix 25 years ago and I think I forgot everything I ever knew...
One more question regarding the cache drive. I am using a 1TB drive as a cache drive which is overkill. Can I partition this drive and use 500 GB for other data such as backups from my windows PC?

I have a couple of questions on the initial configuration. I have read both the official and users guides.
I have the most recent software and I have pre-cleared my drives. I have 3 - 2TB Samsung 5400 RPM drives. One for parity & 2 data disks. I also have 1 - 1TB 7200 RPM Samsung drive for a cache drive.
I have identified my parity drive and data disks then I ran parity sync. Where do I go from here?
Does it matter which format is used for the the drive? Pros & Cons? If I want to use NTSF would this be a problem? Could I remove a server NTSF drive and plug it into my windows system and be able to use all my files?
Initial transfer of data from windows to server. I have a N 150 router that connects my PC and server. Can I direct connect the PC and the server to take advantage of the 1 gig transfer rate? Would this require a special cable or just buy a 1 gig router?
Is it feasible to have a working 2TB drive on my PC and mirror all my work on a 2TB server drive? How could this be done?
Can I backup the operating system to a thumb drive and if I experience a failure could this be a boot drive?
So many questions and so little time...

DNLA
in Applications
I am interested in configuring a system that will work with JRiver Media Center. My objective is to be able to display music or movies on the TV screen and select them to play. For music it would be nice to be able to look up artist info on the internet or display the lyrics to a given song. I do not do any gaming.
I really like what I see with unRaid and I have looked at and tested all kinds of media software and I haven't been able to find a better software package than JRiver Media Center. I really want to stick with it.

Has anyone set up a DNLA configuration with unRaid?
How did you do it and are you happy with it?

Hi
This makes a lot of sense. I have a 1TB drive that I am using for cache. Now that I have moved my files to the the server I will not need this amount of space. How well does this work with 4.7? I inquired on another thread and they said multiple partitions on the cache drive wasn't working well yet.
This raises another question. My cache drive was formatted NTFS. I converted it to completely for unRaid yet it shows that there are two partition sdc (no space) and sdc1 with 1TB.
When converting a NTFS disk for Linux should I first run fdisk before I put it into my array?
What is the purpose of the swap partition?
Can I use a USB attached cd drive to load windows XP?
I have read that there is some software that will remove a lot of XP components, I don't recall the name right now, but is this an option?
