  1. Hi, By the way I think I solved this. I might just not be that smart. I think I ended up having an intermittent ram slot failure which lead to a host of problems that I could not sort out. Including not booting from the USB.
  2. Squid, I swear I did purchase an upgraded key at one point. That's part of my confusion. I wonder if I purchased it and never actually upgraded it. Would that be my only issue here? I can unplug a few drives I guess to get it to boot.
  3. nottower-syslog-20220306-2106.zipHi, I'm just booting this server up after a quite a while and finally got it booted on a physically different USB, but with the data copied. It instructed me how to replace a key, but it wont install. I'm getting ERROR (5). I'm not sure what to do. I checked a couple other posts that mentioned the date and time being off, but mine seems to be correct?
  4. Thanks for getting back to me. Maybe I should just keep running this one until I can save up enough for the threadripper system.
  5. Hello! So I currently have an unRaid server built but I would like to upgrade a little bit. Its kinda an all for one build for me. I would like it to be able to be able to do the following: -Plex, one user -Occasional small game server -NAS -Back up for a few home PCs Current Build: i7 950 32GB RAM non ECC memory 20TB My current CPUs I have laying around 2x E5620 2x X5550 2x X5667 FX 8320 FX 9370 I would like to use a pair of the xeons I have laying around since I have 64gb of DDR3 ECC RAM I could pair it with. Another option would be to sell all of the above and buy CPU/Mobo/Ram that would suit me better. What do you guys think? I would like to stay in the ATX form factor since that fits my current case.
  6. Just wanted to reply and let everyone know that something in the SMB reset had fixed it. No idea what it was but now it works. Thanks!
  7. I also looked, I had SMB 1.0 enabled. All three checkboxes. I even tried disabling it, with no luck. I would book a tech support appointment, but I would have to take a day off work
  8. I'm looking into this. Another thing I noticed, which is annoying that if I type the IP address of the server into a file explorer, it just opens a web browser to that address?
  9. Ok I tried to run the LANScan, and it won't run I get the following error "System error 1231 has occurred. The network location cannot be reached. For information about network troubleshooting, see Windows Help" So I am trying to figure that out. In the meantime I have been trying to go through that thread. I have also attached a diagnostic file to this for future info. Manually mapping the drive still does not work. I believe I am a little over my head. Now it doesn't show up on the computer I didn't have issues with before. I believe the server is public on my network in my house. I am trying to find it just through file explorer or mapping it as a network location. My PC Info: Windows 10 Pro Version 1709 OS Build 16299.309 nottower-diagnostics-20180402-1914.zip
  10. Thanks for the reply! I'll keep digging and report back. I did have some success with the issue computer being able to see the Web UI. I used the reserve IP address function in my router. Something I didn't really think of. That got me somewhere at least.
  11. Hi, I know there are a lot of topics on this, but I feel like I've been through all I can find. I still can't find a solution. One computer is giving me headaches. The other computers can access everything just fine except this one now. I used to be able to access it with no troubles, but now I can't even access the Web GUI. I had some trouble with the PC a few weeks ago, where the I couldn't access the internet from my ethernet port. I have since figured this out, somehow. I had to reset everything pertaining to the ethernet settings. Now I notice that it says my wifi network name on my ethernet info. It didn't use to say this. I can even see that there is a Plex Media device on my network, which is my server. I can't seem to map my drives no matter what I do. I can't manually map, or browse the NAS in the file explorer. I can't find the web gui using the IP address or the server name I do have the local master plugin on the server I'm frustrated, can anyone point me in the right direction? I have tried these just today: https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/7857-first-time-user-cant-access-web-gui/ https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/23536-cant-access-unraid-server-from-1-pc-on-network/ https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/17082-solved-no-web-interface-available/ https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/68193-windows-10-does-not-see-unraid-server-in-network-browse/
  12. I went to that thread, which immediately leads me to this here. It only really said to do the SMB edit. Which I did and it didn't solve anything. I am going to go through it a little more thoroughly now though to see if there is anything I missed. Thanks! I have edited my original post with the full diagnostic download.
  13. So when I try to map the server manually using \\tower\users, I get "Access Denied". I followed a stickied thread, Here which lead me to adding "ntlm auth = yes" to the SMB extra configuration and that didn't seem to do anything.
  14. For some reason, I am having trouble accessing my server. I cannot find it in the Network in Windows 10. I have tried this trick here: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters\AllowInsecureGuestAuth With no avail. I had set up that was working, but I upgraded disks and just removed everything from it. Is there any way to reset everything? The disks are supposedly formatted and ready. tower-syslog-20170402-2118.zip tower-diagnostics-20170403-2129.zip I would like to note, that the server was up and running before, but I upgraded disks. It was originally just set up to try unraid and see if I liked it. So now that I have decided I like it, I went through and cleared out the shares and created new ones. Now I can't seem to map to them.
  15. Memory - whatever you buy will be throw away. But $90 for MB and CPU is a good deal. But my experience is that MBs can tend to wear on in ways that take time to figure out. Suggest trying it out pretty hard while in the returnable phase from eBay. I don't think Kaby Lake is a necessity now. A year from now? I might feel different. My nuc5cpyh can play back 8bit, but not 10bit. So my server would not need to transcode the 8 bit stream to those, my primary playback devices. Have fun. UnRAID is a great platform and I think you'll enjoy it. The mobo and CPU are from a friend. I'm not too worried about them lasting. We are usually trading stuff back and forth. I'm sure I owe him more than $90 over the years anyways. Thanks for the help!
  16. I'd look at Kaby Lake i7-7700K if HEVC decoding is important to you. Quad core not hex, but faster clock (4.2GHz) more than makes up for it. Kaby Lake CPU is $350, but the motherboard is quite a bit less expensive (Socket 1151 vs 2011). Also DDR4 memory. I'd say probably comparable or better horsepower, with couple fewer CPUs to pin. Passmark of the Four Core Kaby Lake i7-7700K: 12,304 $350 Passmark of the Six Core Sandy Bridge i7-3930K: 12,026 $90 Kaby is $160 more. Motherboard probably $160 less. I'd go for the Kaby - no question. That ASUS Rampage IV did not get good particularly good ratings on Amazon or NewEgg. And prices I saw were $300-$500. My next server will do 10bit HEVC decoding. Not in any rush - but closeout on Kaby Lake as Cannonlake 10nm technology rolls out is a definite possibility. (Note that even Skylake (e.g., Xeon E3-1275 v5), don' work for HEVC at 10bit. Guessing Intel will sell a bunch of the Kabys to the video watching crowd!) I posted this earlier - but THIS HEVC GUIDE is a pretty good description of HEVC and how it accomplishes comparable video quality at 1/2 the size. Pretty awesome algorithmic advance! I finally got around to reading that HEVC guide and it was really cool. Thanks for linking that! I should clarify that I am getting the ASUS Mobo with the CPU for the $90. I am going to get it when I get a chance just because. I might get the server up and running since with it since it doesn't cost me much. I might end up going Kaby Lake when tax returns come back. It might just be worth it then.
  17. I think I am just going to pull the trigger on it. It will do what I need just fine. Thanks guys!
  18. Plex isn't my main goal, yet. I am thinking virtualization and NAS is my primary focus. Yet, it might be worth it to just pull the trigger on a newer architecture CPU. Thank you for pointing that out.
  19. I currently have the OS running on a spare computer I have laying around to play around with, but I am moving to an actual dedicated system soon. I just need to purchase a CPU/Mother board combo and a case. I can get a i7 3930k and the ASUS motherboard below for about $90 or so. Which would make my potential system the following. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($90.00) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9x65 33.8 CFM CPU Cooler ($48.95 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV Extreme EATX LGA2011 Motherboard Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (Purchased For $0.00) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (Purchased For $0.00) Video Card: PNY Quadro K2000 2GB Video Card (Purchased For $0.00) Case: Silverstone GD08B (Black) HTPC Case ($138.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: Corsair RMx 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $55.00) Total: $332.94 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-02-13 00:43 EST-0500 This would be paired with 3x 4TB WD Reds and two 1TB WD Blues. My other options would be to use an AMD FX 8350 and matching mother board I have laying around, or trying to pick up a dual CPU board and find some newer xeons to put in it. This is mainly going to be NAS, with the ability to be a PLEX server. I want the capabilities to run a windows 10 virtualization off of it as well. My question is am I on the right path with the i7 3930k or should I move to one of the other options?
