  1. I've read those already, those imply general counterfeiting of hardware which is different from the hardware requirement of a GUID and different than a USB 3.x reliability and roadmap discussion for 2024+.
  2. You're a lifesaver. I think I'll be okay assuming I find a USB 2.0 USB drive, trying verbatim will know more when those arrive. Still think the USB 3.x support/roadmap/2.0 requirement warrants an update
  3. I just bought an Unraid Plus license after spending $2000 on hardware for my 64TB NAS and it's using the ASRock Z690M-ITX/ax Mini ITX LGA1700 Motherboard. This motherboard, like most hardware in 2024+, does not have any USB 2.0 ports. USB 2.x is not required per official Unraid requirements but I am seeing horror stories and moderators rebuking USB 3.x on a very consistent basis. I'm trying to find a USB 2.x drive which is hard in 2024 but I don't have an issue trying to do this for now because I'll buy it, see if a GUID exists, and return if it doesn't then rinse/repeat. However, I'm now faced with a major hardware issue if USB 2.x PORTS are needed because I'm using a Mini ITX build and space is key. I don't want to have to use my PCI-e 5 expansion to have legacy USB 2.x ports if I can avoid it. Can we have an official stance from Unraid on this situation and is there a clearpath roadmap for USB 3.x support? If not, I may suggest partnering with a hardware manufacturer to produce USB 2.x drives and expansion cards because these are becoming obsolete. In the mean time, I need to know a solution for my non-USB 3.x port issue and what my options are. I may need to request a refund if I need a different motherboard which would be a shame because I'm returning to Unraid after first using it with great satisfaction in 2011. Thanks in advance.
  4. im not an engineer either.....basic carpentry skills is all thats needed....... This is probably the most badass thing I've ever seen if you just need basic carpentry skills. Would you happen to know any good how-to's? Nice image by the way.
  5. Forgive me for not being an engineer. As for that link, it doesn't work: "This item might have been deleted, expired, or you might not have permission to access it. Contact the owner of this item for more information."
  6. Not a bad idea whatsoever there prostuff1. I just might go with that honestly. How's it look though, with your server on it? Is it a bit ghetto?
  7. I'm trying to find some nice, inexpensive, good looking rackmounts. Preferably those that I can mount on a wall or ceiling in my basement. Thoughts? Thanks community!
  8. I got my brother an AppleTV 2 (black edition) for Christmas and he loves it natively. Of course, he's going to hack it and put on XBMC or Plex which I read up a lot on... hacking it that is. I believe the youtube video instructions on Plex/XBMC hacking is between 12-20 minute steps. It would be worth it IMO if you use unRAID. Reason? AppleTV2's device has built-in IR Receiver and can be hacked with XBMC/Plex (aka nice video interface for TV Shows and Movies). The IR Receiver I mention because you may be able to switch everything to a universal remote control. My brother accepted his gift instead of rejecting it (which I kind of hoped for in a way ) so I didn't get to fully exploit it's potential. It's worth reading more into on those other forums if you're interested. WD TV Plus (I have this as well) cannot be hacked for the video interface and use the file names to view the movies/tv shows. This is fine, but Plex/XBMC is more sexy. WD TV can be hacked to have sab/sb/cp on it though I hear. Good luck!
  9. Actually... I don't think this includes the CPU. Silly me thinking Newegg finally had a decent Shell Shocker deal...
  10. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856501004 This is for $79.99 if you get it during the Shell Shocker today between 10:00am-12:59pm PST. That's 1:00pm-3:59pm EST. I'm not sure of how this benchmarks and I've been looking all over. I do see that it supports 1080p and it's GOT to be better than the ION I would think. Thoughts?
  11. Hi, I have a basic UnRAID server so far and my friend just bought a 3TB USB External HDD on Black Friday. We're trying to transfer the data to his external HDD but he's saying it isn't being recognized by Win7 in the 'my computer' area. He said it shows up in device manager but not in My Computer. I am trying to find more information on this, but I swore that these HDD would be easily read by Windows and even Linux if necessary. Can anyone help with the problem or pinpoint me to an area that explains this well? Much appreciated -- Thanks!
  12. unraid web combines web server and unmenu and a few other things, but i forgot to mention the most important part for all of this. How do you achieve all of this REMOTELY. sorry I should have clarified
  13. Hi, I would like to find the best/easiest way to access unraid via a browser. OpenSSH allows you to connect to the server or maybe to another computer that is on, but it does not allow you to open a browser on the server right? Because the server does not have one? I've tried unraid web which prompts me for a username and password at my local PC but not at work when I forwarded the ports. I immediately turned the port forwarding off when I got home. Is there an easier way to maybe password protect the unraid web app? Any ideas from the awesome peanut gallery?
  14. Consider it ~$80 because you will need to RMA this item after a week.
