  1. Well let's just hope they can somehow implement this
  2. I think they should be unified and the user can create shares movies etc. It would make sense maybe if the user wants Purple drives for NVR and different drives for anything else (Though I don't know if it's a great idea to run NVR on UnRaid, because of the Speed limits. There can be just one Cache array for everything and user can choose which ones to use the cache for, like they can now. I hope they will implement this in the future, and the Cache can be solved also pretty easily as I wrote. Thanks for your very informative response, it helped me understand a lot!
  3. Something like VDEV on ZFS, or Multiple volumes merged into one (The same thing practically) would solve this problem as the people above suggested.
  4. Yeah, I'm no expert too, but I don't see, why this would not work. Because it could behave just like one drive but mirrored. Someone smarter should explain if he/she comes across this post. I may try some experiments with a Raid card. Edit: Yeah practically, that would work only if the parity drives failed, not the drives with data. That's a pity.
  5. Maybe a stupid question, but what if 3 drives and up were just raid 1? Is there a limitation why parity drives cannot just be mirrored? EDIT: So theoretically it would be possible to add HW Raid 1 array to the parity drive to "create" more parity drives?
  6. I just had an idea in my head. Correct me if I am worng, but parity drives are just mirrored, right? (I'm not sure about this at all) so it wouldn't be hard to just allow more parity drives, right?
  7. It's up to Lime Technology. I just thrown this idea on the forum that maybe later it can be added. Everything has it's priorities and I understand that.
  8. Than they could make it something like JBOD so one VDEV would fill then second.. third....
  9. It would be just something like multiple UnRaid pools striped into one.
  10. Well if you add something like VDEVs in ZFS you could do bigger stuff with it.
  11. The 3 parity drives would make sense with more than 30 devices so those things should be added together. And multiple pools is a great idea. Or maybe add something like VDEVs in ZFS so we could make maybe 15 drives VDEVs with 2 parity drives each or something like that. It's not like that I need more drive support right now but in the future it could be good to have it and UnRaid could then be used in larger scale.
  12. I am just wondering if Lime Technology is planning to add support to UnRaid for more than 2 parity drives and more than 30 drives total.
