  1. sweet as. fingers crossed. I will be double and triple checking the parity drive to make sure of course. I'll let you know.
  2. What do you mean put them in the correct logical slots? Does the order of the data drives matter or not? Your initial reply suggested that it didn't (as long as you don't assign a data drive to parity), however your second reply kind of suggests that it does. I'm still a bit confused. My parity drive is a WD Black and the others are Greens, so the serial number will be obviously different. If I assign the parity drive to the parity slot and the data drives to the data slot, is there anything else that needs doing?
  3. everything boots fine except there is no array or shares pre defined. So you are saying I can just add all the disks to the array in whatever order and it'll all be fine? as long as I get the parity disk assigned correctly?
  4. Hi folks, UnRaid has been running rock solid for me for ages but then I started having some network issues, couldn't see the tower over the network. So, I've been trying to get it working and have gotten to the point of doing a new install with the latest version (been running 4.7 since 2012). I tried copying over the config files as it said in the UnRaid manual but my array isn't showing at all. I can see the disks if I try to add them manually but if I add them in the wrong order, I have a suspicion it will screw everything up. I had a spreadsheet with all the drive numbers and positions in it but for the life of me I can't find the damned thing. It's driving me nuts. Anyway, the instructions say that if I copy my config folder over that the array details and shares will show up but they aren't. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Cheers in advance
  5. I'll try that, it's every single directory. Some of them are largish but nothing that would have created a problem, I would have thought. I'll let you know how it goes.
  6. All of the stuff on my server has been individually named by me, rather than being autonamed by say, a camera or whatever. So I am going to try and run that clonespy thingy and see what happens. What's the best way to get it to actually scan all the discs, cause the share I have just makes it look like a single drive to my windows boxes.
  7. Ok, no, I am not running cache dirs (can you point me to the instructions for setting that up) and also I don't have the display in explorer as being thumbnails, I just have it as details listing. Or am I completely off track and need to change another setting?
  8. As I was getting my syslog together for my other problem I noticed a lot of duplicate file entries but when I browsed through the disks using the File Browser in the unraid browser management console, it would only appear as having one copy of each of those files and they were all appearing as duplicates on disk 11 but I couldn't see what they were duplicates of. I hope that's clear but basically I was wondering if there was an easy way to take care of these duplicates and if there's no short and simple way (I would rather short just cause it's easier :-P) what is the long way to do find which duplicates are on which disks etc. and take care of them? Thanks in advance syslog_16092012.txt
  9. Hi guys, I did a search and read through a bunch of directory listing topics and none of them were quite the problem I am experiencing. So what's happening is this, I spin up all the drives by click the Spin Up button on the Unraid Main browser window and then go about managing all my files on my server. When I click on a directory, it can take anywhere up to a minute for the directory listing to appear. When explorer is waiting (in Windows 7) it has the green progress indicator moving across the directory location bar. I don't think this used to happen but it's been happening for a while now and I have only just gotten round to being fed up with it and posting here. I've included my system log since the beginning of the month, if more data is required, happy to provide it. If it's not a fault, is there some way that I can speed it all up? Thanks in advance syslog_16092012.txt
  10. It was kind of weird, I decided to go from scratch and format it usb (after backing it up) and set it up as a fresh installation. It worked no problems. So, I copied my old 4.7 installation and then upgraded it to the latest version 5 rc and then did ran the 'make bootable' bat file and it's working fine. Of course, I had just rebuilt the parity before I had these issues and of course now it's working again, it's back to the old one and I need to redo the parity drive but it's no worries. Of course, I am still having the issues with the Unraid Main window not showing but that's something else altogether. It showed up for me to reassign the parity drive but now it won't show and if it happens the same as last time then it won't show up after parity is finished calculated.
  11. Update: When I went back to my old configuration of unraid (my old previously working 4.7 version) it does the same thing. Any suggestions?
  12. Hey folks, having another weird issue. Upgraded to rc5-r8618 and got through upgrading my parity drive (to a WD Green 3Tb drive). Got through rebuilding parity, then Unraid Main stopped working. Tried some of the solutions found in the forum but nothing worked. I couldn't find the power down button so I just switched it off (yes I know, I forgot about the powerdown command from telnet). Now when I boot up, it goes through all the normal boot up stuff but then gets to a black screen with just a cursor blinking in the top left hand corner and doesn't do anything further. When this has happened in the past, a reboot would sort it out but it hasn't in this case. I also copied all my old 4.7 files back onto the drive and just replaced the bzimage and bzroot files (as per the upgrade instructions) but still no luck on booting up. I will be trying to just restore to my old config (I haven't formatted the old parity drive as yet, wanted to get everything working 100% before I did so) in 4.7 to see if that will boot up. My server config is as follows: Mobo: SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O CPU: Intel i3 540 Clarkdale (the i3 530 and i3 550 are fine too, choose based on price and availability) RAM: Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333 PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W Case: Antec 1200 Hot Swap Drive Bays: Norco SS-500 x 4 SATA Expansion Cards: Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA Add-on Card x 2 Drives: 10xWD Green 2Tb, 1xWD Black 2TB (old parity drive), 1xGreen 3Tb (new parity drive) I am not sure where to find the syslog, happy to attach it but given that it's not booting would it be of any use? If you need further info, let me know what and I'll get it right away. Thanks in advance
  13. Did you do all the things mentioned in the other thread? Also, there is a google link with information about needing to disable PATA for the SATA drives etc.
  14. Thanks guys, all upgraded and whatnot. Parity rebuild on the 3Tb running now. Have kept the old parity drive out of the array till I am 100% up and running with the new drive but it all looks peachy so far. Thanks again for the help PS: How do I mark the thread solved?
  15. No worries, wasn't aware. I copied one of Raj's designs: 20 Drive Beast (tower) Mobo: SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O CPU: Intel i3 540 Clarkdale (the i3 530 and i3 550 are fine too, choose based on price and availability) RAM: Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333 PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W Case: Antec 1200 Hot Swap Drive Bays: Norco SS-500 x 4 SATA Expansion Cards: Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA Add-on Card x 2 Cables: 0.5m 30AWG Internal Mini SAS 36pin (SFF-8087) Male w/ Latch to SATA 7pin Female (x4) Forward Breakout Cable x 4 No SATA Cables needed (6 included with motherboard) Hard Drives: Has 2Tb WD Caviar Green Drives, 1 Caviar Black 2Tb and now a Caviar Green 3Tb
  16. Even to just tell me which is currently considered the most stable unraid 5 release? Happy to do so if it's needed, just thought that for this question it wouldn't be required.
  17. Hey all, I just purchased a 3Tb drive and couldn't figure out why, when assigning it to the parity drive, it showed as 'Not Installed'. Then I realised it was because I was running 4.7. I've done a bit of a search through the forums and just wanted to know which is the best UnRaid 5 RC to be using currently? I know they are in beta and therefore not perfect but which one is the most stable so far. I don't demand much of my server so I just want the 3Tb support and am willing to deal with the quirks of a beta release :-) Thanks in advance.
  18. I'll give it a crack as soon as this batch of discs is done ripping :-) I'll let you know how it goes
  19. Wait a sec, even in ide enhanced they are all registering as sdX rather than hdX. So is this still the solution to my problem? I have been doing a lot of automated dvd ripping today so the server has been pretty busy and I haven't had a chance to implement the fix yet.
  20. Sweet as, I'll do it in the morning. It won't cause issues with trying to format them or any nonsense like that? will just add them in and be happy (assuming I get them in the right slots of course)
  21. Hey folks, I have just built my new server and it's working like a dream, when the SATA mode is set to IDE Enhanced. Currently there are 5 discs in the array: One Caviar Black (parity drive) and 4 Caviar Greens (for the data obviously) When I go into the BIOS (in my Supermicro X8SIL-F) and set it to AHCI, everything boots fine but it does detect the parity disk and drives 1 and 4. 2 and 3 detect as normal. In the web interface it has the drives listed as missing, with the obvious red buttons next to them. When I change it back to Enhanced IDE it all works fine again. I was playing around with these settings because my read speed has been crap. I don't really care about write speeds to be honest, they are acceptable at around 25ish MB/sec but the read speeds are on the order of 13MB/sec which if I am trying to run a couple burners off (I use an epson discproducer PP-100, or will be shortly) it's going to cause some burning issues. Those speeds are Megabytes, not Megabits by the way. Anyway, I will get onto the speed issues at a later date but anyone got any idea what might be going on with the AHCI? I am running version 4.7 at the moment. Cheers
  22. Was just browsing for cables and found this in a scratch and dent section. Thought it might work nicely for someone, especially at $60. You can find it here: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1008&products_id=31430 I'd grab it but just picked up an Antec 1200 :-)
