well my unraid is a 1.70 ghz cpu 1 gb ram and streams 720p and full hd perfectly fine on 100 ethernet and even to laptops by wifi... never had any buffing or lagging problems

i have my unraid server up and running now for about 6 months. question is can i take the usb stick with unraid on it out of my pc and put it in a different pc also i wil put the harddrive into the new one from my other setup will it work and boot up and load unraid and my files as normal so really all im changing is the hardware of the unraid? witch spec is better for unraid Viglen Genie Executive pBTX 915 Processor Intel Pentium 4 (3.0GHZ) Memory 1GB DDR-2 MEMORY SATA unsure of speed or HP Compaq DX2250 Microtower AMD Sempron 3400+ (1.79 GHZ) Memory 1GB DDR-2 SATA 3.0-Gb/s this one is what im running unraid on now

room temp is 28c i do have a very large 8 heatpipe heatsink with 120mm fan on my cpu and my temps were taken when all harddrives were asleep and unraid not being used.

so you are saying that the tempratures on this is incorrect? my unraid is on a HP Compaq DX2250 Microtower PC

the reason i have the linksis setup the way it is in the pic is because the switch and linksis is upstairs in the home (better wifi signal) but i can acses my unraid by wireless just fine. all passwords have been changed..my ssid name has been changed but not hidden because i had connection problems but everything has been changed.. it sounds like i have already done what i can to secure my network so i should be ok then.. thanks to everyone for your replys least i no now i have done everything i can..

hi everyone this is probably a really silly question but i wasent sure so thought you wouldnt mind ansering it for me.. can someone els gain access to my unraid files from the internet ? like a hacker or maybe if one of the computers on the network gets infected with a virus can that virus mess other computers up on the network or even mess my unraid up ? all my shares are read only and i change them to read/write when i want to add files then change it back to read only (to prevent accidently deleting files) my setup is very basic. parity 500gb WD green disk1 500gb WD green unraid (latest non beta one) free edition. its plugged into my lan switch made a picture to show you my setup i have not changed any settings in unraid. software is not my strong point. building computers and networks are

i have now managed to get on it now. anyone no how i add my film folder on my unraid ? its not showing up on my xbox too..

i followed these steps on this link http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3532.0 i downloaded mediatomb-static-0.11.0-r2-linux-uclibc-i386.tar and extracted the folder to my flash. and edited the go script and restarted i now want to access its web guid to change settings. have i enterd the right address in my browser http://192.169.0.6/main.htm-ip:49152/ my unraid uses a fixed ip address (http://192.168.0.7/) i just want to be able to stream my videos to my xbox 360..

on my linksys router iv turned off DHCP and also changed option to auto DHCP. to static ip. to apply these changes it said i had to set 1 or more (if i like) Static DNS 1 so i put in my ip address of my unraid server. i have also connected one of the lan ports with an ethernet cable from the wireless router to my switch (as recommended on here) i can now access my unraid by web gui on wireless computers but in networks the unraid still wont show up. my wireless device im using has windows 7 if this helps. iv also tried finding my unraid by going into (my computer) map network drive. but unraid wont show up.. but on all my other computers that are connected to the switch by cable can see the unraid. the modem my internet provider give us that we use to get the internet has wireless built in. so its a modem and wireless router in one. reason iv added my own wireless router (linksys) is because the wirelss signal is loads better. i cant change or get rid of this as i wont be able to receive my internet from my provider. my internet is broadband from a company called virgin.

i have added another wireless router in my home because the one i was given by my internet service provider was a very low signal upstairs.so added another one upstairs. i can view and access my unraid y all wired pcs and i can also do this with wireless the one my internet service provider gave me BUT i cant access my unraid by the wireless router i have added. i have made a picture to explain my setup.

umm ok then. ill have to get a gigabit switch...expensive probably not worth it for what i use my unraid for (watching films and streaming music.. maybe if i can get a second hand unit of ebay..can i use my normal ethernet cables with gigabit ? iv not long ago bought loads of Ethernet cables to re wire my hole home.be a waste of money if i have to re wire and buy new ones.

if i purchase a Gigabit pci card and install it on my unraid. will i see a speed increase when i transfer a file from a pc that does NOT have a Gigabit card to my unraid that does? pc - basic 10/100 unraid - Gigabit any other benefits ? or w waste of money because other pcs i use dont use Gigabit connection. also do i need special Ethernet cables to use Gigabit cards? my logic tells me to use Gigabit speeds/benefits both pc's would need to have Gigabit cards. i also use a 3com superstack 3 (model4400) to connect all my ethernet cables.

i have a parity disk (500gb) and i have one disk1 (500gb if my disk1 fails. can i simply replace it and the parity disk will put all my files back on that was on disk1 or what if my parity disk fails. can simply put in a new harddrive and parity will scan my other drive (disk1) and correct itself. what i mean by drive fail is... complely dead non working anymore.

is there a add one i can install so i can watch films of my unraid on my xbox 360 ? there is no need to live conversion as all my videos work on the xbox 360 as they are. however having that option wouldn't be a bad thing.

the unmenu.conf file. Duplicate that one and rename it to unmenu_local.conf, put your changes in there and then restart unMenu. im on the edit page for unmenu_local.conf line. were abouts do i edit it and what do i put? i cant find anything like nas:8080 if i could find that all i would have to do is edit it to my ip address. like this 432.231.12:8080 ?

i have installed nmenu.. problem is i use a fixed ip address. i need to change unmenu default url address to my fixed ip address for example 345.32.134:8080. in order to use my unmenu i have to edit the url from nas:8080 to my ip address. how do i edit this so it can use my ip address instead of the nas:0808 hope someone can help cheers

can upnp support be built into the next updated unraid as im sure im not the only one in the world that has an xbox 360 or some other upnp enabled device. this would be so cool plus upnp is the norm these days in any server/nas os...i no you can get upnp support on unraid but its too complicated to do for me and im sure im not the only one. plus i cant risk messing up my unraid.

No, you cannot protect the share folders from specific users on the "free" version. User-level security is available on either of the paid versions. ok i am going to buy it soon anyway so thats cool. can i disable delete option in share folders ? for example in my music folder no one can delete anything in that folder but you can still add music to the folder?
