  1. thanks for your help. I can do that. thanks, my hardware is all old. from my original build in 2010-11. It fully meets my current needs will LSI HBAs be compatible? (my mother board is a Supermicro X8SIL). is there any way I can be recommended/given direction what to buy? I have googled and wouldn't want to buy the wrong item. thanks again for your help!
  2. Thanks, yes I had to hard reboot. looks like something pretty crazy happened during rebuild I would have to assume on hard reboot parity check was going crazy with millions of errors. another drive was showing as failed. shutdown checked wiring and rebooted things seemed better. though my second drive was still showing failed. parity check no errors. start rebuild fails and initiates read only parity check, but starts at 2tb not from zero for current position in check. and check completes zero errors clear. I disable the disks that have failed and initiated another parity check. I have dual parity, I can only assume the parity check will show as no errors. I hope to try to rebuild again. I dont know how to proceed, used unraid for a long time with little issue. and I am certainly not a power user and would really appreciate assistance. syslog.txt unraid-diagnostics-20200409-1310.zip unraid-diagnostics-20200410-1101.zip
  3. I tried monitor and ipmi and nothing on screen. I dont know if im doing anything wrong.
  4. no console access ... no access through any means I've tried.
  5. Any help on what steps to take ... 14 hours into rebuild. everything was looking ok, wanted to check on progress gui/dashboard won't load. console won't load. went on my router to see the server is showing on device list as well nothing there. look at the server and typically during rebuild all drives bays are lit up. now for the past 1+ hour only 2 drive bays lit up. I am trying to avoid hard reboot, but don't know what my options are? possibly wait it out?
  6. just stopped the array and showing my drive 10 as red now (no device), my drive 9 is orange (as expected). as well as the message, Too many wrong and/or missing disks! anything that can be done at this point forward or am i going to have to take the loss of my data from both my drives 9 and 10?!? i don't know if i should hold any hopes that it could possibly be a bad wire on my drive 10. it appears my worst fears of having such a large array of disks are being realized.
  7. hello, been an unraid user for 4-5 years now, but would consider myself quite a novice still. beside all the research in my initial build and some bumps here and there I've been quite lucky. i have had failures and drive errors I've had to troubleshoot. but with the help of the forums I've always been able to manage. im a heavy user but pretty vigilant with my monthly parity checks, so my array was (should have been) error free as of last month. this morning i check my array and i have a failure, not the first time and im sure not the last (i had a spare drive just or this occasion). i swap out the red balled drive and initiate the rebuild and leave for work. i come back to what im assuming is another drive failure during the rebuild. since i have a 20 drive array i know im at higher risk for multiple failures. something similar happened once before but thankfully the second drive failed when the array had already completed rebuilding the first failure. this time since i wasn't able to rebuild its seems much worse. i do not know how to proceed. i believe/guessing my drive 10 hasn't fully failed and thats why im not getting full redball status for it. its green but it doesn't seem readable. my drive 9 slot is the one that initially failed. if anyone can point me in the right direction, obviously i would like to try any minimize as much data loss as possible. but i understand thats may not be possible. if im forced to lose the data on both these drives it'll suck but i don't want to lose the array. since the rebuild was going nowhere i did stop it, shutdown and incase ensured all connections were properly in place. my build includes: 20 drives (4x4tb 16x2tb) (7 hgst 13 wd drives) no cache SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O intel xeon x3440 supermicro 5 x 3 Hot-swap SATA HDD Trays x 4 supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA Add-on Card x 2 my syslog was huge so i couldnt upload it through the forum. https://www.dropbox.com/s/uy32rlrt51i63ka/syslog.zip?dl=0
  8. I'm curious if this is possible. I have 20 drive array consisting of mixed 4tb and 2tb drives. All drives are currently used for storage. I just swapped out a couple of my older 2tbs for a new 4tb reds. For the first time in awhile I'm space rich (5.3tb of free space). Due to extra space I'm wondering if I can transfer my data out of one of my existing 2tb data drives (2tb hitachi 7200rpm) and use it as a tepid spare/cache. I guess it's more curiosity if I could reassign a data drive to a cache and then possibly back to a data without issue? And if there's any potential risks trying this out. I'm not currently dissatisfied with performance and data was more the priority over performance previously. But since I have the opportunity now to give this a try I'm a little curious. Thanks any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  9. thanks for the reply! i cant really make a good argument not to take the parts off his hands the more i think of it. and at the price he's offering it. its most certainly going to be overkill for me but will also provide me with some room to grow with v6. or like u said opt for a secondary build
  10. have my build from late 2011 early 2012 couldn't be happier with the results. essentially i built based off of raj's beast tower prototype currrent setup is SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O Intel i3 540 Clarkdale 2x2gb kingston KVR1333D3E9SK2 i have all 20 slots full with drives (2x4tb + 17x2tb + cache) my bubby has offered me parts from his long planned build that he never got to and realizes now never will offered his unused cpu intel xeon x3440 2x8gb ram he was going to build off the same board so these should be compatible with my current setup. any opinions if its worth upgrading and as for the ram can i just add them to my open slots and have a total of 20gb of ram or do i pull the old sticks out? any potential issues i should be aware about before i decide. thanks so much for any advice/replies
  11. really appreciate the replies. i won't go and do anything too rashly and stick with version 4.7 for now build my parity and move forward accordingly. much thanks for the feedback. i plan on already doing my second build for my father. in order to utilize the 3tb drives he has i may try and build his using a beta (but maybe not i guess ill decide with a little more thinking/reading). its going to be the same data on both servers (he was my mirror backup) i was thinking on building his array and transfering all the data from server to server. when i built mine i wasn't as concerned with data loss or failures since technically i was protected. it will be a little of a different story now. i figure ill build my parity while I'm preclearing his drives. any suggestions on how to proceed with his build, but more importantly any suggestions on how to go about this transfer? much thanks any suggestions/feedback is greatly appreciated.
  12. hello all this is my first post and first build. couldn't be going smoother as of now. I'm built, had quite a bit of data to transfer (approx. 20tb), i have completed the transfer. as per some recommendations to quicken the transfer i left the parity unbuilt until i was done with my transfer. I'm now ready to build my parity. and now that I'm ready I'm thinking i would probably prefer to use a 3tb wd green as my parity. but heres where my concern is. for my build i used version 4.7. so it looks like I'm going to have to upgrade to a beta to use my 3tb drive as my parity. wondering if i can i upgrade without a parity? (cause in the instructions it states you must have a valid parity to upgrade) or any recommendations/advice on how to proceed in order to use this drive as my beta? and if I'm able to do so without too much hassle any recommendations on which beta to use? i have a one spare 2tb as well that can be used if i have no other alternative. but in retrospect ill have this 3tb just laying around unused if its not added to the array. any help/advice/instructions would be greatly appreciated. thanks very much
