  1. I'm having difficulty mounting some NTFS drives in my server so that I can transfer the data to the array. I have 2 NTFS drives phsyically installed in the server. In SNAP for UNRAID 5, it says "No FS" (no filesystem) for both of the drives. I've also tried manually mounting following the instructions on this page: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Copy_files_from_a_NTFS_drive I've tried both the first method and the second method using the Read/Write driver that is supposed to work for drives over 2.2tb (formatted with GPD rather than MBR). Can anyone advise me what I am doing wrong or how to troubleshoot this? Many thanks!
  2. Thanks for the info and the tips. It is very much appreciated. I'm a bit gutted about the lack of HFS support. There are a few threads here with people talking about having mounted HFS, and I found a command earlier that showed HFS+ as a filesystem recognised by unraid... but the fact that you can't mount a drive with it seems puzzling! Perhaps this is a feature removed in version 5? To be fair, most of the threads I saw were pretty old. I guess network transfer may be it... Might have to wait a while though. I don't have a Mac myself, so will have to borrow the server owner's, or get some sort of HFS+ drievr for my windows machine and then do it in chunks overnight. Thanks again for your insight!
  3. Hi, I'm helping a friend transfer his data to his new server but having a bit of an issue. He has a bunch of Apple format (HFS+ I presume) drives. I've installed two of them physically inside the server but everything I have done to try and mount them hasn't worked. To the best of my knowledge they are both full 3tb drives, HFS+ format. The show up in UnMenu Disk Management as: ST33000651AS_9XK06WX1 * 3T /dev/sde ST33000651AS_9XK0159Z * 3T /dev/sdc partition (366,282,000 blocks): /dev/sdc1 Notably although I am led to believe they are of the same format, there is no sde1 listed. I have SNAP for Unraid v5 installed. When I view the drives there I see the "No FS" label beside each of them. I have tried manually mounting the drives doing "mkdir /mnt/hfs" then "mount -r -t hfsplus /dev/sde /mnt/hfs". This produces the following message: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sde, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so I've also tried the command "modprobe hfsplus" (which is silent in its response) then repeating the above manual attempt at mounting to no avail. There is no mount button in UnMenu Disk Management. I have no reason to think that the drives have been modified by the installation in the unraid box. They've not been added to the array or anything like that. Can anyone suggest how I should try and troubleshoot this? Ideally I'd like to do the data transfers internally, rather than across the network since we have about 25tb to transfer in total. Idiot instructions appreciated since I am quite new to Linux and also Mac. Many thanks! EDIT: Attached syslog and confrim version of unraid is 5.0.5 hfssyslog.txt
  4. Thank-you ever so much. Really appreciated! The ASRock it is!
  5. Hi, I'm helping a friend who started building an unraid server last year but never finished. Returning to the project, the system is dead. Through process of elimination the PSU is confirmed OK, which leaves the motherboard or CPU. My hunch is that the CPU is ok and the motherboard is the issue. There is absolutely zero life in the system currently - not a light or fan at all. My plan (and I'm open to alternatives) is to find a replacement motherboard to swap into the system. If it turns out the CPU is broken, I'll have to buy another. So I'm wondering - can anyone advise me on a motherboard that will work ok with an i3-3220 - and I would really like one that has 8 x sata ports. I'm in the UK and several of the models listed on this forum I've not been able to find at the likes of: http://ebuyer.com http://aria.co.uk http://dabs.com I know the i3-3220 is a 1155 socket, but after that it gets into chipsets and I'm all a bit lost. Add to this the seeming inability to search by number of sata sockets has made life even harder! Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks!
  6. So I've put my 7th disk into my case and have realised that it was only shipped with 24 screws (enough for 6 drives). I can't see specifically Fractal screws available after a bit of googling/ebay. Since the Fractal cases are pretty popular, can anyone direct me to some screws that might work, if its in the UK even better. The screws would need to be long enough to screw through the fractal HD tray, with wide enough heads so that they properly pinch the rubber vibration dampeners on the tray. Too thin and I guess they will fall through the middle. Thanks
  7. I'm running V5 RC8a with the SimpleFeatures menu skin/addon. Under Settings -> Email Notifications I have selected to recieve notifications with the Max temperature at 50. As I understand it - I should get an email to warn me if a disk rises above that temperature. The script will check the temp every hour and only send one email per hour. This isn't the case. I'm getting an email every hour regardless of the disk temp. Some emails show disk temps in the 20s - other emails show all disks spun-down. I'm sure this is a very simple issue, but looking at the menus I can't see the option to change it. I only want to hear from unraid if there is a problem Can anyone advise? Thanks
  8. My idiot status is confirmed - you guys were right. Found the other folder inside a subfolder. I must have miss dragged it. Thank you so much for all the help though.
  9. Thanks for helping me I did have identical folder names inside the two genres folders. Eg: disk2\2010-genres\funk disk2\genres\funk disk2\2010-genres\soul disk2\genres\soul For about 30 different genres. So when I selected all 30 genres inside 2010-genres, and dragged them onto the /disk2/genres folder I think any genres of the same name have been 'replaced' rather than 'merged'. From what I've looked at, this seems to be normal behaviour in osx/linux. Am I understanding it right?
  10. Over the last few days I've been transferring data to my new unraid server. I fear that I might have made a terrible mistake. One Disk2 I had two folders full of mp3 files: 2010-genres genres Each folder had a list of genres e.g. Funk, Jazz, Soul etc and each genre folder had many mp3 albums, each in their own folder. I wanted to merge the 2010-genres into the main genres folder. In Windows I did a "select all" inside the 2010-genres folder and dragged the selection into the genres folder. This seems have been a replace operation rather than a merge. It seems that the behaviour under Linux differs from Windows and I wasn't aware of that. I'm hoping that the data can be recovered somehow, can anyone advise what my best course of action is? The simpler the instructions the better, I'm a bit panicy now since I think I've lost a lot of data Thanks for any help!
  11. Where can rc3 of SimpleFeatures be downloaded from? I've been looking on the googlecode link in the first post but only see an RC2 release of the base package. Is that the most recent? Or is there a rc3 available that I am missing? Many thanks - and I'm really looking forward to using what looks to be a great plugin!
  12. I suppose I'm more concerned about 'real world' performance rather than the technical upper limit. I find browsing large directories on my NTFS external drives quite tedious, but is unraid (accessed over a network) any faster/slower? I have a feeling it will be slower - unless there is some sort of directory cacheing superior to what/any that happens on a windows system.
  13. I've just got my first unraid box up and running and am in the process of pre-clearing and generally juggling some data to make the transfer of my media easier. I'm just wondering about the folder structure that I should use for my MP3 collection. I currently have my music organized by genre - but some genres have thousands of releases - the biggest having 15000. My windows machine has a couple of seconds delay when I browse this folder on an external HD, but I'm concerned that the delay might be significantly longer on unraid. Might I be wise to further split the genres into genre\artist-name or similar? Thanks
  14. Well I pulled the trigger on the parts I needed for the new build. I couldn't find any of the suggested motherboards for a reasonable price in the UK so I took a chance on one of the ones I first shortlisted: GIGABYTE GA-H61MA-D3V GEN3 Intel H61 (REV B3) Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard I went with the i3-2120 - I just put the machine together tonight (took me ages), and now have a new 3tb WD drive in it pre-clearing. Early days so far, but the motherboard is currently working Thanks for all the help and patience!
  15. I would jump in to the v5 beta. There are actually a gigabyte and msi that I've been looking at. Both seem to fit my needs, the only question is whether unraid will be happy. MSI B75MA-P45 Intel B75 Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/MSI+B75MA-P45+Intel+B75+Socket+1155+DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=50392 GIGABYTE GA-H61MA-D3V GEN3 Intel H61 (REV B3) Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards+-+Intel/Socket+1155+-+Intel+H61/GIGABYTE+GA-H61MA-D3V+GEN3+Intel+H61+%28REV+B3%29+Socket+1155+DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=48248 Am I right in thinking that with the v5 beta there are no real comparability issues with motherboards? (or at least the above two)? Thanks! Edit: Just saw your suggestion of the Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3P - it looks great, but I can't find it in the UK. I can find the "Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3V" but that only has 6 sata rather than 8. I guess that is a good choice too though?
