  1. Yes, I'm ressurecting an old thread... So I am doing this to backup my unraid to a second NAS. But after about 12 hours or so rsync terminates and my /mnt/user directory becomes inaccessable. Even trying to go to it results in a "directory user transport endpoint is not connected" error. Rebooting unraid fixes this issue, so I'm assuming it is an out of memory or swap file error or something like that. I've seen a few people post about this issue in here but haven't found a definitive solution. Anyone run into this? How did you solve it?
  2. FYI - I did finally bring up the system and it started the rebuild over again without any hassle.
  3. I was in the process replacing a failing drive yesterday and a rebuild was in progress. Had a huge wind front come through and not only did the power go out for a few minutes the battery backup also failed, resulting in a power outage to the server during the rebuild process. I'm not worried about a loss of data as I have the whole array backed up elsewhere, but before I power it back on, I just wanted to know what the process would be to make sure it either continues or restarts the parity rebuild. Will it run a parity check and notice the drive is bad and then rebuild it? What should the process be or what should I do, thanks. I am running unraid 5.0.6
  4. Do you have more info/link for this $139 deal on 4TB ST4000DM000 Internal? It will be at tiger direct, though it shows the current price now. Will change on the 29th. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sdtid=6460706&EdpNo=7739052&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&utm_source=Linkshare&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=lw9MynSeamY&AffiliateID=lw9MynSeamY-..9h0TgjRRnk_KNZoq9RMQ
  5. Quite a few people, since Seagate has honored the warranty on many of them anyway. Many people on AVS have done this and had no issues returning a drive under warranty, and others get an OEM package message. You can also open these drives without destroying the enclosure (Unlike some others) but it takes longer.
  6. This is an excellent deal. The drive inside is the latest 5900 Rpm model, which would be good in an unraid box.
  7. Many companies will say that the warranty is voided on external drives once you remove them, but technically the warranty is only voided on the entire external drive. The internal drive has a serial number just like any other and I've known many people who have RMAd drives from external enclosures with no problems. As to the rebate thing, yeah, I don't ever deal with any prices that involve mail in rebates no matter what they are, but other people are more brave than I am.
  8. Seagate Internal 4TB Drive ST4000DM000 will be $139 on B.Friday. Not "Great" but a good deal. Still the 3TB deals are much more cost effective. (3 Drives I've seen now will be under $90)
  9. WD Elements 3TB Hard Drive - $69 with a massive $70 MIR (If you don't like rebates then this isnt for you) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?sdtid=6473612&EdpNo=8556044&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&utm_source=Linkshare&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=je6NUbpObpQ&AffiliateID=je6NUbpObpQ-VK3iGuMG_ksEpxpYvl5nDQ 3TB Seagate Backup Plus Desktop External Hard Drive for PC/Mac $89.99 Promo Code : BF405 Office Depot 3TB Toshiba Canvio 3TB External Drive - $84.99 (Black Friday)
  10. Just a followup. I ended up getting 4 new hard drives based on what was on sale. (2 3tb and 2 4tb) - Basically just did replaces on each drive after a pre-clear. All is well! Seemed the easiest way to do it.
  11. Current price is $139 There is a $30 mail in rebate (Yuck) but it does bring the total price to $109 which is as low as I've seen anywhere for this drive. The catch? Limit 2 per customer and 1 rebate per (person/business/address/household) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=3580092&sku=TSD-3000EFRX%20%20&SRCCODE=WEM3809C&cm_mmc=email-_-Main-_-WEM3809-_-tigeremail3809&utm_source=EML&utm_medium=main&utm_campaign=WEM3809&[email protected]&lk=13

  13. Thanks. I had already done 0 & 1. I think this is the way to go, 2 of my drives had quite a few reallocated sectors where the other 2 did not have many at all. I think they can last a month or two until I see another hard drive sale. Just started #2 and rebuild in progress on that disk.
  14. Yeah my parity drive is already a 4TB drive, so I don't need to do that. I've read that shrink guide, but wasn't sure if people would recommend that I do a "Replace" with 2 drives and then move files shrink the other two, or add the two new drives, move files from the 4 old drives, then shrink all 4, or maybe another method. Most examples use 1 drive so wasn't quite sure if there was a better way to do it in a case like this
  15. I have 4 old 1.5TB Drives that are hitting the age wall and starting to get enough reallocated sectors that I want to remove them from my array. I have 2 4TB Drives that I would like to replace the old ones with. I've read about upgrading one drive with a bigger one, or "shrinking" the disk count of the array, but I'm not sure what approach I should take, but since it is not a 1-1 replacement, I'm not sure that just a direct "replace" is the way to go here. I'm guessing the solution would be to add the new disks to the array, and use MC to move contents of the 4 disks in question to the new disks, then remove the 4 old disks from the array, but I'm not sure what the optimal process would be, or the safest. Also, if I use MC, can you select multiple root share folders at once to move? Like /Movies, /Tv, /Music Can I select these 3 roots and move them to the new drive or would it have conflict issues. I'm just looking for some good step by step advice if anyone can provide it. Thanks!
  16. I am looking into upgrading my unraid from v5-beta13 to the latest RC. The basic instructions in the release notes make sense http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=UnRAID_Server_Version_5.0-beta_Release_Notes The only question I have is regarding plugins/apps. The instructions mention to disable or uninstall any apps you have. Are there steps for this anywhere? I haven't done a whole lot, I think I'm running unmenu, ps3mediaserver (and required plugins for that like java), and apcupsd for the most part. I'm not sure if it would be easier to upgrade and just starting over with any plugins/packages? Sorry, I've never had to do an upgrade before and want to make sure I know what I'm getting into. Thanks!
  17. sort of un-related, but I am running a v5b13 and was considering upgrading to one of the latest RCs. Can someone please point me to a post/thread somewhere on upgrade steps? Having trouble finding it.
  18. I have my unraid system running beta 5 R 13. I have manually powered it down several times with no issues. I had a power outage today, and apparantly my APC script didn't shut down the server properly. Seems like any folders that I created since the last time I manually shut down the system say "windows cannot access X" and mentions permissions. All of my shares are completely visible and public. I've tried to read some threads about permission issues but can't pin it down and I'm tired. I have no cache disk, just a single parity drive. Any idea what I need to do?
  19. Sorry about that. There were 3 existing shares "Movies, Music, and TV". There were really no advanced settings on any of them. High Water, Split Level 1. I didnt type any included or excluded disks and just used the default of "Blank". That was it. Using beta5 build 13. UPDATE: Found a "Solved" thread where someone says after taking the array offline and restarting the space showed up. Going to try that. UPDATE2: That worked! Taking the array offline, restarting, and bringing it back up showed the correct free space across my windows shares.
  20. So I originally had an array with 4 3TB disks (1 parity and 3 data). I added 4 additional data disks, which were half the size of the original disks (1.5TB). I hit the first high water mark on the first 3 disks, which just so happens to be the size of the 4 new disks, so now all the data disks have the same "free" space. Do I need to modify the shares to use the new disks? Do I need to restart the array after I do it? I noticed that after adding the new disks, if I map the share to a network drive, it shows the same total space as it had before I added the new disks. The unRaid menu shows all disks in the array and the correct total space and free size of the array. (Though the new disks aren't spun up since they hold no data yet) So it appears unraid knows about the disks, but the shares don't show that new free space on other computers. Thoughts?
  21. I am currently running 4 Western Digital 3TB EZRX/EZRS Green drives. Using the latest beta version, did 2 pre-clear runs on all drives, built my array, and writing to it with no issues so far.
  22. So I finally got my array online. Finished two pre-clear passes on all 4 drives, added the drive, got it formatted, and then the manual party drive check. Started copying MKVs as I am converting my ISOs. Do I ever need to manually re-check the parity or does it do that on its own?
