  1. still need to fix this otherwise I will not use shares and just copy to disk, my question is if this is a windows 7 credentials issue how do i fix it, do I add the server ie tower2 pw root??? or something else. Like I said in the credentials all it has is my other computers that are connected on the network and not any of the servers. I am about ready to blow up two servers and try again, but that has not worked with the new server install, should I just not set any shares as they can't be copied to in windows and just roll with copying to disk??? Seems sad not being able to use the shares. :'(
  2. if you are talking about the one I posted from Tams on ebay 259-289 should be good, as the drives go thru the expansion cards and have worked fine on the 3tb and 4tb drives I have installed. Don't know about bigger than that. I bought 2 of the 289 ones a have been great. Had a issue on the second one finding the thumb drive but hit the f2 button during boot up and life was good.I too was worried about the back planes but no issue.
  3. it does seem like a windows permission deal but when I try to change them in windows I get the no joy so reverts back. To no go.
  4. Sorry that was to disk one I can read them, but cannot copy direct to disk or share files. No share files are on disk 2 and 3 but can copy direct to them.
  5. I looked at my credentials and there is no server listed on them tower or otherwise, just pcs that are attached to it, ie I am thinking the home group. As of now I can not get any of the shares to copy files, I can copy to disk on 2 and 3 direct to the disk. The shares have never popped up in them. Yes the old server is 4. group.
  6. Is this a my issue??? or is it global????or a windows 7 deal??? If i was in windows I would just change the shares, security and life would be good. I may have to look else ware on a server build as this is just sub par. ie waste of money and time.
  7. well that was a no go took 30 sec. I rebooted and got the need permission flag right off the bat.
  8. will try it, did nothing in 5. build (used telnet as it was a no work from menu and did not fix it I can copy straight to disk but no shares on that build) just is odd as I used all default settings when rolling with 6.1.7 is this a bug or what I have now 3 servers and 5 computers hooked up could that be a problem but my way old school server 4. has no issues. Humm
  9. ok not sure what's going on as I have gotten this on a 5. build and figured a upgrade to the 6. build would get rid of it. So bought a case and did a totally new install. Here's what happens if I reboot server I can drag/copy one time files to the shares if I try another i get the need permission to perform this action pop up (win 7) i have shares set to the default, public so any thoughts ?
  10. to be quick and neat, I did an install on the latest unraid 6.17 no issues I then added a cache drive from another server and the same shares came up, did not have to do anything, but I cannot move files off the cache drive, I have pushed the move now button etc, went to shares on each one and did the yes cache drive, no joy files still on cache drive, should I just clean out the cache and try over ie new disk?
  11. just saying if it works and is cheap, who needs cutting edge tech. Remember it's a server not a state of the art gamer comp. just keeping it real yea it's old school but look at your savings and see above it's a server. When I look at the cpu and ram use on unrad 6 plus it is not even pushing the system. Just wanted to give a shout out for those who want to save some $$$ and have a great server for little $$$ I wish I found this before investing on a exta norco, best thing that happening is that new egg sold out on the sale deal on the norco for 299 just case and I looked else ware. compared to putting one together well you do the math. Just works and I will leave it at that. I see that they are selling so jump on it. Great deal!!Even the base ones rock for 249.99.
  12. Just adding, great shipping with molded stryo, I put in the usb stick and all was good, my second is coming in a day so hope all is same, I am a tech person but who wants to waste time on config etc, so far it was plug usb in fire it up and good to go, the one i got had a copper heat sink and a hard plastic wind tunnel, loud yes but have it in a storage area, as the norcos were just as bad, and lost hearing with them running in the same room. lol
  13. just wanted to post this as I have done a couple of norco 24 disk builds, went cheap on mb and paid big bucks on the hd expansion cards, I can not buy the case and guts for this price on ebay: Supermicro 24 Bay Chassis SAS846TQ Server AMD QC 1.80GHz 8GB H8DME-2 250$ and 70 shipping it will support 4 tb disks Check it out as the supermicro cases are way better than my norco ones. I purchased one with a faster processor $289 with 16 gb mem. I got a second as I was having hd red ball issues with the msi board build. Not pimping them but hay better than buying a new on sale norco for 299case, new egg and have to buy mb, mem etc. here's there link http://www.ebay.com/itm/172060378673?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Again I will say with the duel ps the supermicro case is way better. The cards installed let the unit take the big hds. Just saying learn from a person that built 2 norcos. maybe sold out but check other listings
  14. Well i did get that software and am recovering the data, some readable some not. My question is do I run initconfig invalidate the parity then add the new disks(replace bad ones)? and if so will I loose any data on the old disks??? thanks
  15. Ok got 2 replacement drives but now having a issue on trying to start the sever get the 2 or more disks are wrong Unraid 4.6. I have not formatted the drives just put in the server. Any help would be great. thanks
  16. well here's the latest, put the 2 drives back in and since one is dead and the other will not mount the configuration is now invalid. Will rma the dead drive but Joe let me know if the other is fixable. thanks well thought about the program get data back ntfs and don't it will work due to the type of format the drive is under in the server. ps the balls looked orange but the drive that's doa is now red. Fact it states it's missing.
  17. attached is the drive I reformatted drive 7 This is the error I saw-5 Reallocated Sector Count FAIL 1 1 36 4090 N.A well I pulled drive 2 out and plugged it into a external bay on another computer and it will not power up guess it died. any thoughts? I could use get data back on ntfs to get data back on the drive i formatted. life is not good DriveInfo.txt
  18. Well did not want to kill the data on the drive but figured that it would be rebuilt thus having the program. The drives are fine have never had an error on them. They both show a orange ball. Here is the syslog. thanks figured i kinda screwed up on the format. the configuration shows valid syslog.zip
  19. Ok heres my problem (running 4.6 - 16 drives plus parity) Last night I got a orange ball on one of my drives. Ok I think no big deal do the stop, take the disk out of the array start it up then stop and enable it and start the array again. When the array starts it does the rebuild on the disk [ we have been hot here 106 plus so the man cave is a bit warm] the rebuild gets slower and slower so I stop the rebuild ( did this several times) well during the last time the drive showed up unformatted. I thought well ok all the other disks are good so I checked the format box and guess it reformatted the disk. So it then started the rebuild and it of course did the time out on the rebuild. The server froze and the only way to shut it down was with the power button on the norco. When I powered it up I got another disk (2) the first was (7) and it shows up unformatted. So now I can't rebuild disk 7 as I have the message that I have is that disk 7 that I reformatted is now unformatted as is disk 2. So my question is how do I get disk 2 which I did not format to mount to the array so I can do a rebuild on 7. I am not real tech with this set up so have a hard time just doing stuff from the main screen at times let alone trying to do putty etc. Just figured I would throw that in so kinda need Lime Tech for dummys answer. I can see all the drives but 2 and 7 which are unmounted due to the state they are in. Any help would be great. I stayed up till 1:30 am this morning looking for answer. thanks
  20. well life is now good!!!! Rebuild is finished and the server is up and back to it's old self. Surprising what a couple of fans can do. thanks
  21. at 20.4% so looks like the fans have done the trick. The heat on the sata cards was killing the rebuild. will up date went rebuild when finished. quite good as I was thinking my server was sol.
  22. life is still good at 8.8% maybe the easiest solutions are the best ones. Just saying. I read the forums and was thinking the worst.
  23. Thanks for drchips and the old school builds I needed. Well after a bunch if not working beers etc. I touched the heat sinks on the my supermicro sata cards and well they were hot, I figured humm maybe that was the issue, as the rebuild started fast then after a day would stop at 1 percent or less. Some beers later I thought maybe heat was the issue (I have a norco case with 17 drives humming along} so I pulled out a 120 and and 80 fan for top and back blowing on the sata cards) well now I am at 4% on the rebuild when I would always time out at less that 1% so not saying that power supply etc is wrong to look at, but check the cooling on your cards. My Norco is a passive cooled case and I never had an issue until I needed to replace/rebuild a hd. So learn from my many beers on a possible fix. HEAT KILLS. thanks will update
  24. Here's my sad story. I got the read ball on one of my drives. (not good) Did all the tricks to get the drive to work. Well that did not happen as when the server started to do the rebuild on it, it started fast then slowed up, then froze the server. Me being a smart person (lol) got a replacement drive and thought hummm why not upgrade to 4.7 well that opened a can of worms ie the dreaded HPA issue on 3 drives, thus the server will not do anything with too many drives not working. So I was going to go back to the build that worked 4.5.3 but can't find it. I could be stupid but when I look for it all I get sent to is the download link with only 4.7 and above. Can any one post the 4.5.3 or a 4.6 version. My thought is to get the new drive to do the rebuild and then work on 4.7 issues. thanks for any help
