  1. I use the 1.5tb ecogreens f2 drives for my parity and data drives and I have speeds rank up there with the ones I see posted. I also use a 500gb f2 ecogreen for my cache drive and it does great too. I missed out on getting a couple more for the system last week when Fry's had em on sale. Gotta get 2-3 more to add more space.
  2. I did, I also did not see this one with any certifications. I will upload the syslog in a few more days. I want to run one more parity check before I am through with what I wanted to do.
  3. I am a fairly new unraid user, using the the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard. I am only running 3 drives, plus a parity and a chache, so I have enough to certify this in level 1 testing. Is anyone interested and what do I need to do, just post the syslog? I want to run one more parity check and then I will be upgrading sometime in the near future by adding 3 more drives. So later on I can certify 6 drives. Thanks

    Movie Format

Hate to be so uniformed.. But is x264 format what is contained in the mkv container? And if so what is your process for producing them? I want to try it out myself

I have used that in the past too. I liked it a lot since it was so simple. But that will not do Blue-Ray movies will it? I only have a few so far, but haven't ripped those myself. I usually just go out and find it after I get the movie.

    Movie Format

I rip to a full bit-rate ISO image of the main movie of a DVD. I delete extra languages, subtitles. I often leave second/third audio tracks with director's commentary. If I want to view the bonus material, I grab the DVD of the shelf. (usually, we'll watch the bonus material when we first view the movie) I own all the DVDs on my server. They are there for the convenience of playback. Most DVD ISO images average between 5 and 6 Gig. some are as low as 3 Gig, some as high as 8. Since I project on a 110 inch screen in my theater, I do not want to lose any detail by compressing the image. Joe L. Do you use handbrake to remove the extra s too when your remove them?

    Movie Format

What is the preferred format to keep movies stored by people? I have some that are ISO, and some that are just the VIDEO_TS folder. Should I not worry or use one format? I also have some .mkv for the BRay movies, though not many of them yet. Also, is there a way to convert the VIDEO_TS folders to ISO's? I am sure there is and that I am just not finding it. It has been a while since I messed with a lot of this, but now that I have my unraid going pretty good I wanted to get my movies all put on the server.
  9. I love my Antec 900.. Nice looking, lots of room etc... I need to get some 5in3 cages are the supermicro ones pretty good and have good airflow? I wanted to get 2 for my case.
  10. When does the popcorn hour pch-200 come out?
  11. My temps are low, but so far they have not really been put through anything to difficult and the PC is in a very cool spot in my basement. But My ultimate plan is to get 3 of the 5-in-3 backplanes (once I read up and can figure out which ones are best) and have 15 drives in the antec 900 case. I am sure the temps will rise some then even with these fast cool drives so I am planning for the future. But I pulled the trigger and decided to go lower power and ordered a samsung f2 ecogreen 500gb drive. 1 platter and it is very quick since it has such a high density. I was highly rated and only 49.00.
  12. Wow... I was getting around 39-40 MB with writes to the cache drive, but I am wondering if I should replace the 500gb maxtor 7200 rpm with a 5400 500gb drive. The temp on the Maxtor is 29c where the other drives are hovering about 17-19c. I like the though of a cooler running drive. I wonder how much speed I would trade off for that. LOL... now I need to try just to see.. Thanks again
  13. I am rethinking using the 1.5tb seagate drive I have firmware cg1g. I am transferring a file from it and am only getting 7-8MB. I had a 500gb maxtor dIamond max 7200 rpm sata 2 I also pulled from my HTPC and in the same blacx adapter I was transferring at 21+ MB. I wonder if my seagate needs a firmware update? Either way I think I like the samller drive better for this purpose. I will check on the firmware upgrade for the seagate and put it back in the HTPC for now. Thaks for the info...
  14. wow a cache drive will get me 40MB speed? I will take out the Seagate 1.5tb 7200 drive in my htpc case. I didn't really want it in there. kind of a waste to have 1.5tb as a cache I guess but I dont want to buy another 7200 rpm drive.. Does the system come in a and move the cached files to the parity protected drives or do you need to set up a script on your own?
  15. I am a bit confused as to what speeds I should expect from using unraid. I have a gigabyte ud3p motherboard and running Gig-E therenet to a D-link dgs2208 Gig-E switch. The drives are the 1.5TB f2g Eco Greens and I have 4 of them 1 Parity and 3 data. And I am running the Pro version whcih I just got the licenese for. I have searched and read some of the posts about speeds but IMHO they are confusing some if not all of the time. To me it looks like a lot of the posters are switching between using MB and Mb readings in the same sentence etc. What speepds should/could I expect when using Unraid to copy files to the server and reading from it with not cache drive in place ? (I planning on adding one down the road if it is warrented). Today I copied 23.1 Gigabytes of data from my desktop to the unraid server. This data contained many files 5041 files and 79 Folders. I copied to a drive share on unraid and was geting someting like 18.1 MBytes for a transfer speed. Is this an acceptable speed or should I be doing better?
