    Hi Folks,

I need some help. I've had unraid for many years and never had this happen.

Now this has happened 2x/ already in the past 30 days. I thought it was just a fluke the first time it happened, but it just happened again and I have no idea what's causing it?

Can someone help me figure out what's happening?

    Unraid 10.6.3

I'm attaching the diagnostics. Thank you!

Also you should enable the syslog server and post that after a crash.

What did you spend $1200 on?
i mean I dropped nearly $2000 on 18TB exos drives this year, super worth it to get my parity check time down and general performance up.

We started having our server crash randomly and I couldn’t pin point it even with help from the forums. I basically ended up replacing everything but hard drives and the case.

I almost bought an nvidia shield. Honestly jellyfin works way better, we’ll probably move to that

I always say happy wife happy life if she likes the jelly fin the you may have a winner. Mine just made me spend 1200 buck to fix our plex cuz she’s addicted to plex.

Not silly, appletv 4k 2021 and roku ultra 4k 2022

as well as testing in my browser

So I can tell you from personal experience the the Roku and Apple TV have always been horribly slow on my personal set up. We recently bought a new tv for our bed room and it runs android tv and everything load instantly. I wanted to test this further I borrowed an nvidie shield from my brother in law and it to loaded 10 times faster then the Roku and Apple TV. I’m also running wired network.

This suggests a hardware issue.   I would carefully check your cooling (especially the CPU fan) in case it is thermally related.   Another possibility since you say you recently added new drives would be that the PSU is overloading trying to handle the additional hardware.

As was mentioned the syslog server should allow a software trigger to be eliminated.

Regarding unclean shutdowns you may find this section of the online documentation to be helpful.

I would like to once again thank everyone for there suggestions. I ultimately ended up replacing far more then was probably needed but some of the stuff like the fans and coolers where things on my to do list any way. The ultimate culprit ended up being the cpu or the mother board. Ultimately I ended up replacing all the fans and coolers as well as the psu. I ended up with an Intel 12700k and an Asus PRIME Z690-P D4 main board. I also took the opportunity to install two 1tb m.2 nvme drives for cache and a 500gb for my Plex meta data. Thank you again for all the advice.

    Check here.

Everything was set up the way you suggest in your post. I’m currently running a memtest. If everything checks out on the mem test I think I’m going to bite the bullet and find a new mother board and cpu. I do want to thank everyone for there help and advice. I can’t be to upset the server has, no pun intended served me flawlessly for 5 years. As I am starting to think about 4k content running a Intel based system seems like a better route to go any way.

Ok so I’m back and forth on this issue. Just wanted to know I just realized the two new drives I just added are 7200rpm and the others are 5400rpm.  One of the new drives I mounted are a second parity drive. The other is unassigned and I had planed on having it as a live spare.
could the drive differential in speed be causing the issue.

Update to latest stable and if issues persist enable the syslog server and post that after a crash.

ok so I will just give everyone an update on this. at this point I have all new case fans and a new cpu cooler as will as a new psu. the crashes are now acting more like crashes where the server locks up forcing me to hard restart. I'm attaching the latest syslog file as well. i jjust dont want to go down the wrong road on this as I cant seem to figure out the problem on my own.

Do you mean the server powers off unexpectedly? Or do you mean it hangs and you have to power it off? Or what?

I come home and find that the array is stoped and the 2 new drives are at 46c with notifications about the temps. The temperature thing may have nothing to do with the unclean shutdowns but I do have new case fans on the way as the drives in question are mounted below the path of the current intake fans.

  10. So I have happily run my unpaid server for at least 3 years. After years of trouble free operation I am now having issues with random unclean shutdowns. I recently added a second parity drive and a live spare drive. I notice after the unclean shutdown that both of the new drives are running hot 46c. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It was the same behavior from the webgui on the server.  My servername never appeared at the top left above the content.

I have it up now, but with the official container from Plex.  I tried the linuxserver plex container and had the same behavior as this binhex one.  I then installed the official plex container and it finally showed me where I could add media.

The only difference between the 3 dockers that I could see was the official one made you "claim" your server.  Not sure if that matters or not but I'm up.

once in the web gui you still have to add the folders to plex. lets add movies. click on more> this will bring you into media.

hover over the movies tab. you will see 3 dots click on them. go down to manage library and click on edit. this will open the edit movies window. from there select add folder and navigate to your movies folder and add it. rinse and repeat for your other media.

Every mfg has their own procedure on updating the BIOS.  Usually, its done from within it after downloading the BIOS file from another computer.

Squid thank you so much for your help. I thought I had done all my home work on this re purpose of my old gaming rig but I never read anything about the c states leading up to the build.

Time will tell if that was the only issue.

again I thank you sir and will call this a solved issue

Since it's a 1st gen ryzen have you updated the bios and disabled c states?

I have not. I didn't update the bios after reading of problems with the latest bios from amd. but now that i typed that I'm realizing thats probably problems with the latest bios for the 3rd generation chips. i will have to look into how to disable c states.

is there a good way to update bios without having to rebuild the unraid server?

BTW loving the community application it was part of what sold me on unraid.

  14. so my web gui stops loading after 20 to 30 hours of up time.

i'm running on a asus prime 370x with a 1800x cpu. 16 gig of ram with a 256g samsung m.2 nvme. 46 tb on 5 wd red drives.

i'm still in the set up phase of this build.

I'm a total noob to unraid and the only way i have been able to get back up and running is a hard restart.

I picked up a acp smart ups so i can more gracefully shut it down by killing power but would love to figure out how to stop this from happening.
