  1. I'm happy to report back that Johnnie is a freaking legend! While it doesnt make any kind of logical sense to me doing a cmos clear actually allowed me to boot up on version 6.1.9 I tested it with a fresh USB and trial version of 6.1.9 until i could get it to boot, then upgraded my actual USB and BAM we're all good. Thanks everyone, once again you have shown the unRAID community to be the best around
  2. Yes Bob, that was the last thing I tried before reverting to 6.0.1
  3. Hmm I will have a go at resetting the CMOS, however the fact that I can still restore back to 6.0.1 and boot correctly would suggest that the CMOS isnt the problem, unless there is some weird changes with 6.1.9 Does anyone know if its safe to go straight from 6.0.1 to the current 6.2RC? or do i need to get on to 6.1.x first?
  4. I haven't, however don't i need to be on version 6.1.x before upgrading to 6.2? I'm sure I read something about that, however in the links to the release it doesnt actually state it as being a requirement. I am also very cautious with beta versions and prefer to only run stable releases.
  5. Ok first up thanks in advance to everyone who helps me with this one, the support of these forums is second to none and despite many of us being noobs when it comes to this stuff we're never made to feel like idiots and always learn a lot, so massive thanks to all! Now down to business, I'll try and be as succinct as possible. * I was having issues with not being able to set up docker, install plugins or shut down correctly (the server went into an infinite loop when trying to unmount disks) * After posting about my issues with docker, the first step recommended was to upgrade to 6.1.9 (I am currently on 6.0.1) * The general recommendation for upgrading is to go to the plugins page and hit check for updates. When I did this no updates were found and it simply said that the unraid server os was "up-to-date" (see attached screenshot) * With that step failing I decided to go down the manual path, and hit a huge wall... * Initially I just copied bzimage and bzroot on to the flash drive and went for a reboot... the server doesnt seem to come back online via the web interface or by pinging its address... so i dig out an old monitor and keyboard and hook them up * I retry the boot process, it gets to the unraid "splash screen" where you can select to the load the OS, load in safe mode or do a memtest. I select to load the OS, it loads BZIMAGE and BZROOT by saying they are OK and thats where it stops, it just doesnt go any further, no errors, no reported problems it just stops. * I tried to boot in safe mode, just to check if this made a difference and no, same outcome. * I then take the USB, plug it back into my main PC and attempt a variety of file copies thinking maybe I need to copy over more than just the 2 files, no matter what i try, including removing my config files I get the same problem and unraid just doesnt boot. * I then decide to go for a clean install, format the USB, copy over files, make it bootable, copy my key but leave the config files off, just to see if i could get it to boot... unfortunately same deal and thats where I am now... this final part really doesnt make any sense to me as for all intents and purposes I have just tried to set up an entirely new version of the server. I managed to restore the previous working version of unraid and get the server back up and online in 6.0.1 however I still have the issues that pushed me to upgrade in the first place, I also would like to try and stay on the most up to date version moving forward. I think this one might be difficult to resolve so thanks to everyone for your time.
  6. Great, thanks heaps guys. I will try all the suggested steps first and then report back if i still have issues
  7. Hi Guys, I am struggling with getting started using docker on unraid 6.0.1. I have read through the FAQ and attempted to follow the guides but I fall over right at the start where I cant even see the docker button on the navigation bar. I went to settings/docker and attempted to set everything up in there, I believe the info I put in is ok but the docker doesnt seem to start and I never see that button on the nav bar. Below is an extract from the logs and I have attached the latest version of the diagnostics output. Thanks very much in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Aug 15 13:08:20 Vault emhttp: /usr/local/sbin/plugin install https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SlrG/unRAID/master/Plugins/ProFTPd.plg 2>&1 Aug 15 13:10:55 Vault php: /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.docker.manager/event/stopping_svcs Aug 15 13:10:55 Vault php: Stopping Docker... 8. Hi All, I ran into the same problem with the killer e2400 NIC. In the latest stable release 6.19 the driver is built in. Havent tested it yet but just wanted to let everyone know.
  9. Thanks Trurl, in the end I picked up a cheap PCIE network card, threw that in and I'm up and running. I will wait to rebuild the drive in a day or two and then perform the upgrade to 619.
  10. Hi All, excuse the inaccurate title, it was a little hard to describe my scenario and thanks in advance for any help people can provide. So I bought all new hardware for my server, new mobo, cpu ram etc. of course i will still use all my old drives however in pulling them all out one of the sata connectors on a drive broke, so i will need to replace. No big deal I think, ive done that a million times and proceed with getting the new server setup. Once its up an running i cant connect via the web GUI, long story short turns out the NIC (killer e2400) isnt supported on the version i was running 6.0.1 I then discover that the NIC is supported in the latest stable release 6.1.9 My question is can i do the upgrade to 6.1.9 in the middle of doing this hardware change and having a dead drive? or will I totally break everything?
  11. Hey guys thanks for all your help! I have fixed the problem. The link dgaschk posted showing how permissions fully worked helped, it seemed the problem was that I had somehow made the files hidden, and when i did chmod -R 777 it hadnt fixed the issue because the hidden property was still active. Once i did a chmod 770 the problem was fixed. Chalk this one up to being a complete Linux novice, however the plus side is that i have learned a lot about file permissions so I thank everyone who has helped me out, i really appreciate it. Now to upgrade to version 5!
  12. No worries, thanks for your help anyway Influencer In your option should I upgrade to beta 5? when I first set up the server I tested out an earlier version of the 5 beta and just couldn't get things to work correctly, is it reasonably stable now? Also if i am going to upgrade which version of the beta should I move to? I see that beta 5 v6 is now classified as stable, is this where I should migrate? If I upgrade is there any risk of losing any information stored in my shares? If i upgrade and then encounter problems how easy is it to go back to my previous system? do i simply want to create a backup of the flash drive? Sorry for smashing you with questions, you help is very much appreciated
  13. Thanks for the help Influencer, sorry i forgot to mention that i looked up the command for doing a recursive chmod and found that i needed to add -R so i have already done that. I have attached a screenshot of my telnet session with all the files for the directory using ls -l as you asked. Thanks very much
  14. Hi Guys, Thanks for the help you previously provided, I know it has been a little while since I first posted but i still have the problem. I had a quick go at trying to fix the problem shortly after the replies but didnt really get anywhere and didnt have the time for a more concerted effort, a couple of days ago however I decided to have a really good go at trying to get this issue resolved however I am still seeing problems and dont really know how to proceed. My knowledge of linux is practically zero having not played around with it much before starting to use unraid so the more explicit the instructions the better. I will try and provide some more information and have attached my syslog in case it helps (I looked in there and just got confused) So i have a share on my server called "Home Media" which basically contains all my personal photos and videos. From my windows PC and any other device i can only see folders but not actual files. When I telnet on to my server i can browse to the directory /mnt/user/Home\ Media and see all the files sitting there so I know that everything still exists I tried to change the permissions on the directory user the command "chmod 777 Home\ Media" I used 77 because at this stage i simply want everyone to see whats there and resolve the problem and later i may try to tighten security once i have a better understanding of whats going on. I didn't get an error at all so it seemed like it worked, however i still cannot see any files in the share when I browse from my windows PC. I am planning on dedicated the whole weekend to trying to get this resolved, as well as trying to set up DLNA in unraid using either the plex plugin or PS3Media Streamer so I have plenty of time to try things and report back if you guys have the time to help me out. Many Thanks PS I am still only running version 4.7 of unraid as I have not yet been confident of the process to upgrade to 5 syslog.txt
  15. Thanks for the feedback guys, once I get home I will give this a try (unfortunately on a training course for the rest of the week) Sorry for not attaching a syslog to the post, I am not actually sure how to do this but once i get home i will go and look it up, i assume it should be somewhere in the wiki or forums. Cheers
