  1. no specific reason, just trying to keep the cost down so i started looking at capable but slightly older hardware. i'm fully open to suggestions though, and would gladly use newer hardware as long as cost didn't jump noticeably. what would you suggest i get instead?
  2. is there an ideal expansion card? i know best/ideal/perfect is wildly subjective, but i'm really just looking for something that is going to give me zero headaches and a good balance of price/performance.
  3. I'm hoping to start building ASAP. this will run unraid and a few plugins. i hope to eventually populate the entire case. i will do this probably at the rate of a drive a month. i know this is not an exhaustive parts list, but i want to know if this is a solid foundation and what is recommended that i don't have, but need. case: norco rps-4224 http://www.ipcdirect.net/servlet/Detail?no=252 motherboard: supermicro MBD-X9SCM-F-O http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182253 CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117286&cm_re=xeon-_-19-117-286-_-Product RAM: Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) CT2KIT102472BD160B http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148770 PSU: SeaSonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151111
  4. I'm planning to build myself a new unraid server in a norco 4224. I plan on running sadnzbd and sickbeard I will start off with a 6tb parity and two 6tb server drives and a 200+GB ssd. I want to spend as little as I have to whole still being decent performance. The only verified builds I have been able to find are years old and no stickies on the forums. If you need any more information from me then please ask. And if you know of other topics with known good builds, you can just link me. Thanks so much
  5. i recently added this controller card (about 2 days ago) https://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AOC-SASMV8 and added a single 2tb seagate drive to it. after booting it was recognized and cleared and working fine. last night i was about to watch a movie with my roommate and about 3 minutes into it the movie stops on my htpc and it claims it cannot connect to the server over the network. so i stop my down/uploads, stop the array. the array would not stop after 20 minutes, so i tried ctrl-alt-del on the server keyboard. this did nothing, so i hit the reset button. after rebooting, which took longer than usual, the cache drive was missing. it's an ocz ssd drive, which seems like it might be dead, but i'm about to take it to compusa to have it checked. but i was able to bring the array online and finish watching the movie. after this, i shut down the server to double check all the connections. and reboot. still the cache drive wasn't found. so shutting down again i added the cache drive to the new controller card. boot up and this time the cache drive and the new 2tb seagate are missing. power down again, remove the cache drive from the server, plug it into my windows machine and get nothing. leave it out of the server and boot up, and still the new 2tb drive is not seen. i love the whole idea behind unraid, but it is frustrating when everytime i reboot the server there is a problem. edit: running server plus 5.0 b14 syslog.zip
  6. that fixed the issue. and i'm guessing that the original cause was that 3 of the 4 drives were showing 0bytes free. it was AFTER this that i set the minimum free space. before it was left blank. thank you for the help
  7. sickbeard is running on the unraid machine. no, i haven't rebooted the windows machine, i figured it wouldn't make any difference. not sure what you mean by " the windows userid defined to unraid"
  8. just as a test i deleted about 50GB out of the music share. even after this i was unable to post process any shows from sickbeard nor could i even created a new directory in the music share. it seems like unraid doesn't even want to use the newest drive, but regardless now even when there is space on other drives it doesn't recognize it
  9. sickbeard is reporting that it cannot post process because of no space. i had 2 drives with no space, 1 with a few GB available and 1 drive with 2TB free. i had my minimum free space set to zero, and changed that to 4GB, rebooted the server, moved files to the free drive with mc and ren new permissions script. rebooted again. and after every step it is still being reported as having no available space. i cannot even create a new directory on the share from windows. initially the share was set to high water with a split level of 2. this has always been fine. i did add the newest drive about 3-4 weeks ago and since then the tv, movie and music share have used none of it. if any screen shots or anything else will help let me know. thanks a ton. forgot to mention i'm using 5.0-beta14 sys.log.txt
  10. i'm using the latest unraid build. and have tried disconnecting all drives. have reset the cmos from jumpers. and every boot i get stuck at the same place. before this happened i tried to take the array offline and power down to add a new drive. it would never go offline and could not refresh the menu page even after leaving it over night. so this morning i powered it down from the reset button on the case. while down i added a new drive and rebooted. when in the menu i added the new drive to the array, and it was clearing the drive. about 2 hours into it my power went off. i could not do anything, and being a complete moron with all things linux i could not figure out how to stop it or safely shut it down from telnet. so eventually the ups gave out and the server shut off. when the power came back it would boot, but only until verifying dmi pool data. so i'm not sure if i'm screwed, if it can be fixed or if i need to get a new mb, cpu etc. any help is seriously appreciated. thanks
