  1. Hi again, I seem to have more disks unable to mount now after swapping some SATA cables out. I think I'm going to get a new controller to eliminate all possibilities. I've been going round in circles a bit but think this might do the job. I think it matches one of the recommended chipsets although it's quite a bit more expensive than my last one. What do you think?   3. Just as a follow on, in replacing the controller. The build I have was taken from this guide and is the 6-bay Mini-ITX NAS (scroll down to see) and the pertinent information from the build was "The case has room for 6x3.5" HDD as well as 2x2.5" SSD. The motherboard has 4 onboard SATA, so we need to add either a 2 port card (for 6xHDD) or a 4 port card (for 6xHDD + 2xSSD) to take advantage of the rest of the drive bays. I recommend a MSATA SSD 833 for cache if you’re going to use Unraid. This leaves 6x3.5" for parity and data. I’d only run 1 parity drive in a 6 bay NAS like this. If you go for the 4 port card, you can have 2 more SSDs as unassigned devices. (VM storage, unpack drives, non-parity/non-crucial data, etc.)"

It's been a while since I built the machine but it's a Mini-ITX build so I'm not sure I had the luxury of multiple ports? It's been working fine for 3-4 years but I realise it might not be ideal.
  6. Hi, I shutdown my server whilst an electrician was working in the house and then rebooted to find I had a disk that won't mount. I'm hoping I don't need a new disk and haven't lost data. I've read the help and followed the process to Check the filesystem but not sure how to proceed. Any help greatly appreciated!   7. Hi Trurl, Thanks very much for taking the time to explain all this to me. I'm just back on this now (bit of a time difference with me being in the UK) and will follow your steps and see how I go. It would be comforting to know the drive isn't fried as I can't afford another 8TB disk at the moment so hopefully the rebuild will work out okay. I replaced the SATA lead on the drive last time I spotted errors so I'm wondering if it is the controller port. I'll check the other drive connections and switch the lead to another port and let you know how I get on. I really appreciate your clear instructions!
  8. Hi, Thanks for your response. I will open up the case and recheck all connections. No I'm not too sure on how to rebuild the disk to itself. Would this delete all the data off it? When I try starting the array the drive is still disabled despite me rebooting and running a short Smart Test?
  9. Hi there, I'm a bit of a noob with Unraid so forgive me whilst I am learning the ropes. I have version 6.7.2 installed and I've just noticed whilst downloading some Media that my main (largest 8TB) drive (I only have 3) has been disabled due to write errors. Whilst performing a preclear of the drive I was warned of errors then but thought it was a dodgy SATA cable. The errors appear to be back. I am attaching the diagnostics I got before rebooting. Could someone take a look and tell me if they think the drive needs replacing? There are no errors on the parity or the other 2 smaller drives. I didn't have a SMART report for the disabled drive until I rebooted. I ran a short SMART test (is that sufficient or should I run an extended?) and it came back error free. I have attached this too.
