  1. I know it isn't made in bash... I've been using Linux since 06 and work with it on a daily basis. Which also means I know bash, and I know how to bash script - I simply dislike scripting in bash.
  2. I like developing things and I like Python. Yes I could do it in bash, but I've done more Python than bash - This makes it easier for me to use Python than bash. But you got me on the dependency thing. Though that usually isn't a problem since most up to date linux distributions offer some kind of up to date Python. Since unRAID doesn't, I created a easy to use plugin (Which will be refined later on).
  3. I do, but I like to do stuff in python
  4. Inspired from the other thread about File List Generation. NOTE: Please note that this is an alpha! - Use at your own risk! Version: 0.1 Future plans Support for cache drive (Write list to cache instead of flash) Support for all drives Proper plugin - Control the script from plugin Scheduled runs through plugin About Currently it will generate 2 lists: [*]List of paths to all files [*]List of paths to all files including the MD5 sum of each These files are saved to /boot/filelist/ When I'm done developing this, it will save to a cache drive, to spare the flash. Currently I only own unRAID basic, which is why it doesn't support a cache drive yet. Currently it supports the following switches/arguments: --flash : Will create lists of files on the flash drive --disk1 : Will create lists of files on disk 1 --disk2 : Will create lists of files on disk 2 Installation Note:The script have only been tested with python 2.7.3. Download and extract the zip file Install the python plugin Place the filelist.py script in /boot/ Execution Execute the script with ./filelist.py --flash (or --disk1 or --disk2) Tip: Run it in screen - It will run for quite some time... madsrc_plugin.zip
  5. Hello fellow unRAID fans! I've been looking fora new project, and recently a post here got me thinking. How would the community treat a plugin hosting site? It would be dedicated to unRAID, host the plugins AND the installable files. This way, when you find a plugin you know the URL's it points too aren't dead. I guess it would work on a user base, which means the users would create a profile, and upload their work, which they they share with the rest of the community. Is this anything the community would use? If it is, I'll start working on the project. Got a few ideas about the features of the site, which I'll talk to my partner, and the community about if people think it's a good idea.
  6. pjneder, It's due to the SimpleFeatures temperature plugin. I got the same problem with my ESXi build, and I use RDM right now. Don't know if the errors still there when I get my M1015 and pass that through... But the plugin won't work if your using RDM.
  7. Does anyone have any experience with Full Disk Encryption and unRAID? I can find a few threads thats 3-4 years old, but nothing that's remotely recent. Currently, unRAID supports all of what I demand from a storage server, except for Full Disk Encryption. Is it possible with the normal unRAID build, or can it be done with a full slackware + unRAID install? I'm looking for something that will start the system, but won't start the array or read ANY data from the disks unless a password is given from either the shell or web interface.
  8. SimpleFeatures replace the standard web interface, so you will find it at //tower
  9. Yes you can run both I have for some time now, but recently reinstalled the server and went with SimpleFeatures
  10. Does anyone have or know of a working p910nd Shared Printer driver plugin? I know there's a package in unmenu, but I'd prefer not to use unMENU, as there's not really any reason for me to use it (Other than the print driver, which is a tad overkill).
  11. The current version I use is the free one, but I will upgrade to the pro version later on when I got the cash.
  12. So, I reccently got a new 8GB USB stick (one of them really slim ones) instead of my old Datatraveler. I want to begin to use it, but I'm unsure wether or not there's anything I'd have to do to my disk first? or do I just install unRAID to the usb and plug it in? The only thing I want to keep from my current install is the shares. The rest I don't mind reinstalling.

    Backupsoftware

Doesn any of you have any experience with some software that can do Incremental backups of certain folders/files on Windows XP to a network share?
  14. Great thanks It solved my problem. Now I just need to figure out how to get it to send an email before shutdown... Already have set Simple Features to send status reports, so should be possible
  15. Thank you. Using apcaccess seems to show that I'm connected I'll try and dissable the unmenu plugin and find another one for Simple Features. I still need to have Clean Powerdown installed?
  16. I recently aquired a used APC BackUps RS 1000 that I've attached to my unRAID server. Unfortunately there weren't any data link cable with the UPS. Today i finally found one! Atleast, I found a cable with USB in one end and a RJ-50 (10 pins) in the other, which I understand is what is normally used. Plugged it in, installed the following packages from unMENU: apcupsd-3.14.3-i486-1kjz.tgz clean powerdown I configured the apcupsd with: NO smart 10 5 300 YES I then connected the server with the UPS on both power and the data link cable, and then I tried unplugging the power from the UPS (I did, however, stop the array so that I'd do minimal damage if the server didn't power down correctly). What should happen, If I understand it correctly is that the UPS will send a signal to the server to powerdown if it get's below 10% charge, only has 5 minuttes charge left OR 300 seconds passes without power comming back. Nothing happened after 300 seconds though. Is there any way I can check if the server can communicate with the UPS? I some thread from 08 about the UPS software, I read that under System Information there should be some UPS info, but I can't seem to find it (I'm using Simple Features though?) Bonus question: With the clean powerdown installed, I invoke the "Clean Powerdown" by using the normal "powerdown" command and then the old standard powerdown command is renamed to "unraid_powerdown" correct?
  17. There's probably something I missed, but here goes: I just installed the plugin, and changed the install away from cahce, as I don't have one atm. I'm also in the process of transporting all the music from my local iTunes library. But where I'm confused is these 2 points: 1: This will work as a remote storage for my iTunes music? I still use a local iTunes installed to sync my devices. I just point the iTunes directory to the remote server? 2: How do you administer it? When connecting to the open port it asks for password, and entering "unused" gives me a 404... Is there something I missed? And I get the same error, can't unmount the drive when shutting down
  18. Yah might just put it in the lady's computer... She wouldn't notice it I did try to run Spin Rite on one of them, and it failed due to a "uncorrectable error" or something like that... I guess they are dead... Might try test them individually before disgarding them though.
  19. I didn't disconnect the sessions, they are still running... Now, after running a couple of hours one of the drives have progressed 2% pre-read (41,126,400,000 out of 2 TB) and the other drive 0% (3,290,112,000) out of 2 TB), both started with a few seconds in between. Last time I precleared a 2TB drive, it was way faster... Guess both drives are dead or in near-dead condition
  20. I've recently build a small machine that I use for all kinds of different test purposes... So when I got 2 WDC Black Drives, i thought that I would use the machine to preclear them, so i wouldn't have to open up my unraid server... Problem is, when I load unraid and start preclearing sda and sdb (from 2 different tty's on the machine... No telnet or anything) it doesn't progress (haven't atleast now for the last 15 minutes)... Could it be because the Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz (Dual Core, 2 threads no hyperthreading) doesn't allow me to run 2 preclear sessions? Or do you have any other ideas?
  21. I'm currently creating a VM server based on this setup in your original post Johnm. I'm a bit confused though... You say that with the Intel RES2SV240 and IBM M1015 you only uses one PCIe-8 port, but as far as I can see they would also need a PCIe-4 port? Also, you say that with the above setup, you would recieve full mechanical speed on up to 24 drives. Would using more drives (if it was possible through unraid, the combo does allow you to attach up to 32 drives...) create a bottleneck? With the combo, you attach 8 drives to the IMB card (on the PCIe-8 bus) and then attach the 16 cards to the Intel card (on the PCIe-4 bus) right? I guess I'd have to pass through the 2 cards, and then use the slots on the motherboard for datastores for ESXi right?
  22. Wouldn't a 2.5HDD 7200RPM SATA3 HDD be faster than a 3.5 inch equivalent, due to the physical disk's being smaller (Thus, theoretically faster to locate files?) So the only advantage of a 2.5 inch drives is the physical size? For servers with many small disk's a 2.5 would be ideal, but for large storage systems, without a LOT of disk's, 3.5 is preffered, due to the sheer amount of GB per HDD?
  23. I've noticed that a lot of people around here uses 3.5 inch drives. Why is that? Is it because they are cheaper and/or larger (Storage wise, not physical size?) I was thinking about using 2,5inch drives in my ESXi build, as with my 6 5.25 inch bays, that would yield me 32 slots, 24 of which can be used for unraid and the last for datastores. Could you help me with the pros and cons with the small, and the large disks?
  24. Planning my revised home network, I will need a new switch (or two). I'm planning on having 2 networks, a DMZ and the regular network, therefore I either need 2 switches or one that supports VLAN (So that I can create 2 VLAN's). I need a totalt of atleast 16 ports (8 for each network preferably) and the ports need to be gigabit. I'd prefer premium products that won't hurt my ping times too much, and then again, I'd like to avoid paying lots of bucks Do you guys have any recommendations?
  25. I've recently aquired a APC RS 1000 UPS (BR1000I) that powers my unRAID server. But it is missing the Data Link cable (USB to RJ-45) and I don't have one around. I do, however, have a RJ-45 to Serial adapter around here somewhere, and my unRAID server does have a Serial Interface... Would it be possible to connect them that way, for the UPS to be able to tell the server that it's on backup power now, with the APC plugin?
