[SOLVED] Renaming non-empty User Shares possible?

Featured Replies

Did a search on the Forum (and checked the Wiki) but only got one hit:

which didn't quite cover this inquiry. Is it possible to rename an existing user share containing data? Would it affect the data structure (access, read/write, etc)? Currently running ver4.6.

Theres a paragraph in the unraid manual on renaming shares:

I'm not sure how it works though... I presume it renames all the corresponding folders to the new name, and shares them out as before, but thats a bit of an assumption.

I would imagine this would be very easy to test however

I believe you have to go to the shares page and change the name there. Then, go to each disk and change the share directory to the exact same name as you used on the share page.

As lionel said, you have to go to the shares page and change them there.

They "should" then automatically update through the array.

At least they did when I tested it anyway.

I'll try this out on a small user share tonight. Wouldn't want to go ahead and try it on one of the main user shares and have it end up all fubar. Thanks!

Finally got around to testing. Confirmed that doing a rename and 'Apply' at the User Shares page seemed to work fine. Contents were properly accessible after the rename.
