Installing a package inside a container

Is there a way to install a package inside a container.

Trying to get smartmontools tools installed into the docker Telegraf however I am unable to find any commands to do this.

Pretty sure I used apk once in a container but this command no longer seems to work.

I know it will disappear if the container is updated but until I find a solution to fix the broken smartctrl then this is the only way I can think of doing it.

It depends on what the base image of the container is and what package manager (if any) is installed.
