February 2, 201115 yr I want to get us organized again to do some testing on the new 5.0 beta X (X started as 3, but likely we'll see a 4 and maybe even a 5 before these bugs are addressed). We are in the earliest stages - at this point users are just installing on test arrays and finding really basic problems, like not able to recognize their disks. This is typical of new betas (4.7b1 was definitely the exception!). I expect the next beta will be much better. I'm suggesting that NO ONE install 5.0b3 on their production arrays. If you happen to have a test array and are interested in testing it out, feel free to do so. But installing on an array containing valuable data is pretty foolish. But after the dust settles and we have something approaching a stable release, I think we should perform some basic testing. I will work on laying out the steps.

February 3, 201115 yr I have been keeping an eye on the release post of the 5 beta 3 and so far i see a. people with IDE drives having problems b. some small issues with AFP and time machine c. some small issues with sharenames with a space in it messing up the size showing at the gui d. Some isues with SAS drives not showing up e. Small unmenu issues which Joe l. Already adressed f. Some added applications may not work due to udev issue's guess that sums it more or less up... now what i would like to know:) what about the AF drives ? everything same as the 4.7 release? i mean i have 3 EARS 1 TB drives with NO jumper ... precleared as normal disks (old preclear script about 2 months ago) 6 EADS/EACS 1 TB drives 2 Hitachi 7200rpm 1tb Drives 1 Samsung 500GB cache drive ALL SATA drives so i could jut upgrade to 5B3 or 5B4 without having issues ? the EARS will just continue to function as before ? when i buy new 2TB EARS drives i can add them precleared as AF drives ? or do i first need to clear the 3 existing drives and reformat them to AF ? thanks in advance for clearing my doubts

February 3, 201115 yr so i could jut upgrade to 5B3 or 5B4 without having issues ? the EARS will just continue to function as before ?Yes when i buy new 2TB EARS drives i can add them precleared as AF drives ? Yes or do i first need to clear the 3 existing drives and reformat them to AF ?You can have a mix of 4k-aligned ad non-aligned. It does not matter to unRAID. If you do want to "convert" a non-aligned drive to one that will have its partition aligned, and if never assigned that disk to the array you can convert it from starting on sector 63 to starting on s4 in a few seconds. If it has been assigned to the array you'll need to preclear it again. (but do it one disk at a time, and get the disk re-constructed before doing the next, or you'll lose the data on them) To list the drives not yet assigned to the array type: preclear_disk.sh -l To test if a drive is precleared type: preclear_disk.sh -t /dev/sdX To convert an non-aligned, but precleared disk to a 4k-aligned disk type preclear_disk.sh -C 64 /dev/sdX To convert it back type: preclear_disk.sh -C 63 /dev/sdX thanks in advance for clearing my doubts You are welcome.
