[SOLVED] Split Level Help

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can you tell me if this is correct.

Share is Movies (this would be level 0)

Inside Movies I have a Comedy Directory (this would be level 1)

Inside Comedy I have a Directory called 40 Year Old Virgin (this would be level 2)

Inside 40 Year Old Virgin I have the movie files... either a DVD directory structure or mpeg files. (this would be level 3)

If I want all the files/folders inside the 40 Year Old Virgin directory (the dvd structure or the mpeg files) to be on the same disk as the 40 Year Old Virgin Directory (which I want to be placed on any available disk) would I use split level 2?

Thanks,

Q

I corrected your post to show the official way to number the levels.

The level you pick is the lowest directory that should split to multiple drives. So, level 2 is the correct answer.

- Comedy (at level 2) can split to multiple drives.

- "40 Year Old Virgin" (at level 3) would not be allowed to split to multiple drives.

0 has a special meaning, so you do not start numbering at 0.

Thanks Peter...

So just to get this straight in my head.

If I choose level 2 (the Comedy Directory) that would mean that the Comedy Directory could be on any disk but the files/folders under the Comdey Directory (40 Year Old Virgin and any files/folders underneath it) would be on the same disk as the Comedy Directory?

If I choose level 3 (40 Year Old Virgin Directory) that would mean that the 40 Year Old Virgin directory could be on any disk but the files/folder underneath (DVD structure or mpeg files) would reside on the same disk as the 40 Year Old Virgin directory?

Thanks again,

Q

With level 2 the Comedy directory can be created on every disk. Any directory under the Comedy directory would only be created on a single disk. For example, you could have Comedy holding the movie "Grown Ups" on disk1 and Comedy holding the movie "40 Year Old Virgin" on disk2. However, unRAID would not create a Grown Ups directory on disk1 and disk2.

Don't think of the split level as the setting that keeps stuff together. It tells unRAID which directories levels are allowed to split and be duplicated on multiple disks.

Contents of directories which can not be duplicated on multiple disks, because they're too deep to be included by the split level, have to keep together.

Thanks again..

I think I am understanding this now.

Basically the split level 2 says that unraid has the OPTION to make a directory for Movies on Disk 1 and Disk 2.  It has the OPTION to also put the Comedy directory on Disk 1 and Disk 2 under the Movies directory on Disk 1 and Disk 2.  It can then put the "40 Year Old Virgin" on either Disk 1 OR Disk 2 but not both thus keeping what is in the "40 Year Old Virgin" directory on that same disk.
