[SOLVED]ver4.7 @ MBR 4K-align & Seagate Barracuda drives, which preclear to use?

Featured Replies

I've got several 1.5T Seagate Barracuda drives which I'm looking to add to my pool. With unRAID 4.7 set to 4K-align, anyone know if I need to invoke the -a or the -A version of preclear for these drives? These aren't AF drives, are they?

The 4K alignment works on all drives, advanced format and normal formats.

If unRAID 4.7 works fine for you and you don't plan on reverting back to previous versions, it's easiest to set the default to 4K Alignment and use that. That's the -A option in preclear_disks.sh.

The only time I would NOT use the -A option is on JUMPERED WD EARS drives. For all the other drives, I would use the -A option.

Correct.  (as long as you are on 4.7 onward)

Agreed 4k Aligned and the -A option work for any drive except the jumpered EARS.

If you do not jumper your new EARS drives and just use the 4k-Aligned setting and the -A preclear option then you don't need to worry about

the drive being AF or not.
