ASUS P5B-VM DO with Core? 2 Duo Processor T9300 [SOLVED]

Featured Replies

Hi!

I've te Asus P5B-VM DO. I bought this ram & processor too:

*Intel Celeron 430 1.80GHz FSB800 Box Socket 775

*Kingston ValueRAM 1GB DDR2 800 PC2-6400 x 2 (Total = 2GB RAM)

But I have a broken XPS M1330 with this processor:

Intel® Core? 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB L2 cache)

Will work with this mobo? Is it a lot better? If it works, is it better to put 2GB more Ram for the best performance?

Thanks in advance.

Check the Asus website. They are pretty good at keeping up with new processors and documenting which ones work on which motherboards.  You can also read the updated BIOS release notes.

Sometimes you need to update the BIOS in order to support a new CPU, which can be tricky. You may need to have access to an older generation CPU to flash the BIOS before you can install the newer CPU.

Also, check the revision number of the board. For example an Asus P5LD2-VM revision 1 can only use Core Duo cpus, but a revision 2 can use Core 2 Duo cpus.

The "broken" DELL XPS M1330 is a 13.3" laptop and the laptop CPU (socket P) wont fit in the desktop socket 775.

Neither will the laptop memory fit in the Asus P5B-VM DO motherboard.

To the OP - You can part out the broken laptop parts on EBay and buy a proper and more powerful CPU and more memory if you want (but the one you already have are OK for pure storage usage).
