Worth upgrading?

Featured Replies

I've been on 4.5.6 since I built my unRaid; it's been running very smooth for several months now.  In fact, I've been avoiding the forum, because my unRaid's been working perfectly, and looking at the forum reminds you that things can go wrong :P

But now unRaid is up to 4.7, with lots of betas of 5 around; is it worth upgrading?  I have a couple of jumpered WD drives in my server...

if it is working dont mess with it. Stay away from betas unless you have a test server. Too many bugs right now for most people.

4.7 is to allow you to use WD EARS drives without jumpers or to "properly" use other advanced formated drives. Now, all these advanced formated drives still worked. Some people saw good speeds anyways and others still were oblivious to the "issue" until 4.7 was released. However, so many people had questions and concerns after reading the internet hype that a partition starting on sector 63 is misaligned and the disks will perform terribly than unRAID 4.7 was released to allow the proper partition on sector 64 to be created.

So, if you're not adding disks then it doesn't give you much. If you add another WD EARS with a jumper it's not necessary either. If you add another advanced format drive you could upgrade to give you the peace of mind that you'll get the best performance possible.
