Split Level Help

Featured Replies

I was hoping someone could confirm that I've got my Shares set at the appropriate Levels.  I'm specifically concerned about my iTunes folder as I have iTunes set to automatically manage my music in the way that it's described below.

Sorry - after posting, I realized I needed to provide some additional information.  Where my MOVIES Share is concerned, I'd like to keep the individual movie folders together - so that 300 and it's dependent files stay together.  For my MUSIC Share I think I need to keep everything under the iTunes folder together (I may be wrong, so please correct me if I am).  For my TV Share I'd like to keep the shows together - so CHUCK and all of its seasons are on the same disk.

So if I understand it correctly, my MOVIES share should be set to Split Level 2; my Music should be set to Split Level 1; and my TV should be set to Split Level 2.  Is this correct?

The "root" of the directory can be considered "0", then you move from there..

Using TV as an example...

TV  -- 0

Generally, the top level is considered split level 1.  a split level of 0 is a special case.

Correct..

Mentally in my head it made sense when I wrote that. hah

So does this still stand?

Movies - 2

Music - 1

TV - 1

Also, what's the best way of moving folders from my current share structure to this new one?  Currently I have my Movies and TV in a Share called Videos - I only had one data disk at the time, so it wasn't an issue.

Thanks for all the help!

I use TeraCopy with the CRC check function to ensure the data is the same on the server as it was on the previous disk.

2,1,1 - Yes

You can just go to the disk share using Windows Explorer and move the files (move, not copy). It will literally take seconds to move since it only updates the file pointer instead of moving the whole file.
