October 15, 200718 yr I don't have user level security enabled, just a root password. However, frequently I will be prompted to enter a password for mediasrva\guest when trying to access a share on my system. This is sence going to 4.2.1. Has anyone else run into this? This is when connected (browsing, copying files, etc) to the user share from Windows XP Pro and Home machines. SP2 on both. Thanks for any help!
October 18, 200718 yr Author Well, nobody chimed in, but I will say that I haven't had this issue since I removed the root password. Anyone else seen this at all? All my systems are XP (Pro, Home, Media edition depending on the unit).
October 19, 200718 yr After you put security on meaning put password to root user then guest doesn't work. That's way it's in windows too if you uncheck simple file sharing.
October 19, 200718 yr I've got user level security disabled and a root password. I don't get asked for a password anywhere except in Firefox or Telnet. My machines are Vista and XP, no problems accessing the shares from any of them.
