[Solved] Mover Script Killing Server

Featured Replies

I recently added a spare 120GB SATA drive to my unRAID array as a cache drive but it seems everytime the mover script kicks off the unRAID box is no longer accessable from the network.

No SSH, no Telnet and no replies to ping.

This happened last night when it was sqeduled to run as well as when I manually ran it from the shares menu.

Any ideas?

Capture your syslog in a telnet window with the tail command. Then we can see what happens just before it crashes.

Sorry about that.

Running version 4.7.

Attached is the syslog, fresh boot, telnet login, kicked off mover from the web interface, 10 seconds later crash.

A second attempt resulted in the attached syslog.

Didn't crash completly this time but mover does not seem to be working correctly.

Appears the issue is the cache drive has mounted Read-Only, i'm going to clear it remove it from the array and re add it see if that fixes the issue.

Read-Only drives usually indicate a file system error on the drive.

First run a SMART test on the cache drive: smartctl -a /dev/xxx (replace xxx with the correct designation). Post the results.

Since it is a cache drive and you have no data to lose, you can use the command, dd if=/dev/zero count=8 of=/dev/xxx, where xxx is the sdx designation of the cache drive. Replace the final x with the correct letter. This will remove the MBR and then let unRAID format the drive again. Do not use the wrong three letter designation or you'll screw up one of the array drives!

I removed the cache drive did another pre clear on it and it seems OK, SMART in the MyMain page (unmenu) is not showing any errors.

I've attached the output of the smartctl command.

It is a oldish drive, smart reports 11,000+ hours but only 80~ start stops, pretty sure it's from one of my previous home server builds.

As you said, the smart report looks good.  If you pre-cleared it, it will have a new file system when you re-assign it.

Server was hung again this morning, I've dug up a 400Gb drive that I'll swap with the 120Gb cache drive and see how that goes.

Maybe the drive has issues that aren't showing up in the SMART report....

Turned out the issue was a corruption on data disk4 which was causing the issue.

Ran riserfcsk and fixed the drive, since then been running smoothly  ;D
