February 26, 201115 yr Hi, Could one of you knowledgeable guys please peruse this syslog and let me know if the errors are anything I should be worried about. Unraid Version is 4.5.6 Many thanks. syslog260211.txt
February 26, 201115 yr Without a bit more to go on.... can't really help. Are you concerned about a specific error? or a specific message? Is something wrong? or not working? Which "errors" are you referring to. The syslog always has messages. Joe L.
February 26, 201115 yr The only warnings I saw are related to your BIOS's AHCI. There are no errors listed. On the warnings, there's nothing you can do short of making sure you're updated to the latest BIOS firmware version. Outside of the upgrade, there's no need to worry about them as Linux usually does a decent job of working around those sort of issues.
February 26, 201115 yr Author Thanks guys. Everything is working fine. It's just that I'm not too computer literate and have very little idea of what most of the messages mean. These two were highlighted in red in UnMenu Feb 26 18:27:35 Tower kernel: atiixp 0000:00:14.1: simplex device: DMA disabled (Errors) Feb 26 18:27:35 Tower kernel: ide1: DMA disabled (Errors) I've never before bothered to look at the entire syslog and I was just looking for reasurance that this is not an indication of some impending doom.

Do you have any IDE devices? Or are all your disks SATA? Could that be why DMA on the IDE channel was disabled, because no devices need it, since there are none? I hate to say this, but a little homework on your part will go a long way. Joe L.

I was probably a bit too sharp in my response... I'm sorry, but it takes a lot of time to analyze a system log. You did not even answer my question. Do you have any IDE devices? If you do the message indicates something is wrong, usually in the cabling. Joe L.

It will color "red" lines matching a series of patterns... one of which is "DMA disabled" Joe L.
February 27, 201115 yr Author OK, I've gone away and done my homework. All the discs are SATA and there are no other drives in the server so I guess that means I have no IDE devices. Now that I know what DMA means, I can understand that having it dissabled won't matter. You must get pretty fed up with answering what must seem like dumm ass questions, so appologies for taking up your time.

Not a problem... you just want the data in your server to be safe and protected as best it can from a hardware failure. Joe L.
