Can't get drives into an array

Featured Replies

I think I may have cause a real issue. (4.7)

I precleared my three drives (parity, dev1 and dev2)

But the broken array (disk status) now still shows the old drives (which are the same prior to the preclear) as 'missing'.

I don't know how to get rid of those 'missing' drives.

I can assign the newly precleared drives and they show on the main page but with the missing drive still showing underneath the assigned drive.

So I cannot format nor does there show any activity for rebuilding. All the drives have a red dot and it seems that I cannot do anything.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to go into a config file to edit out the old drive configuration?

I had this box up and running but decided to preclear my ears so they would start at 64 sector.

Thanks for any help on this.

Is there any data in the array that you care about?  There is a way to do what you want, but it involves throwing away your parity information (though it sounds like you have done that already).  I just want to confirm that you want to throw away your parity data and start over with a new array before going any further.

Yes Rajahal,

We can throw it all away. I am still in the setup phase then once I feel comfortable with how everything is working I will put it in production.

No array data that I care about now (correct, which I have done).

So starting over is fine, thanks for checking. Have to be very careful about moving forward if there is data that needs to be protected. So I appreciate the concern and double checking.

What can we do?

Type initconfig on the command line. Answer Yes.

Beautiful!!

That seem to 'reset' everything. The syncing is now running...

Can you provide me links or educate me on the following;

Where does 'super.bat' live and what is it's function?

Suppose I wanted to save data?

What did I possibly do wrong?

What is the initconfig or what does it do?

Thanks for all the great help here. Do't know how you all keep up with everything but I thank you again for all the wonderful deeds. I shall return.

All the best,

The initconfig initializes the array. You use it when you put together a new set of disks. You can use valid unRAID disks with data and they will be added without being erased.

The super.bat is on the flash drive and it holds the data on the current state of the array.

It is named

super.dat

not super.bat

It is in the config folder on the flash drive.  It holds the disk assignments and disk status.  It is the array "superblock"
