October 26, 200718 yr i've been using UNRAID version 3 for a while now and decided to upgrade to the latest 4.2.1 I followed instructions without incident and upgrade went smoothly. After enabling user shares, however, i am unable to access the web config ( for meat //tower or 192.168.2.2). it just gives me one of those page can not be accessed pages. The weird thing is that i can still access all my drives just like normal and plus i can telnet into 192.168.2.2 so i know it is working. With smb, I can see all 5 of my drives plus a butt load of my individual folders which i assume are there because i enabled user shares. I would to adjust my user share and other settings but i can't do it without having the web access configuation. Does anyone have any clue what happened and what i can do to fix this? Does anyone have any clue
October 26, 200718 yr Author ok never mind fixed it. i telnetted in and did a manual reboot by /root/samba stop and umount then reboot. when it came back up i could access by web
October 26, 200718 yr Author ok actually user shares seems screwed up. So when i reboot web access is fine. as soon as i click on the shares setting in the web config, the web config becomes unresponsive andi can't login anymore to the web config if i stop the array and disable shares it is fine but i can't see my disks anymore. what is going on?

Do you by chance have tons of folders at the top of your "user shares"? If so, this has already been reported as an issue. If you currently have, for example, /disk1/movie_title1/movie files, /disk1/movie_title2/movie files, /disk1/movie_title3/movie files you will instead want to put a top level folder into place and move all the folders with your movies down one level. So...you will end up with /disk1/movies/movie_title1/movies files, /disk1/movies/movie_title2/movie files, etc. Same on disk2... /disk2/movies/movie_title4/movie files, /disk2/movies/movie_title5/movie files, etc. Turn off user-shares... make the disk shares read/write. make a few new top level folders and then drag all your movies down one level and then re-enable user-shares. Things should work much better. Joe L.
October 26, 200718 yr Author wow you are awesome! i made some root level folders and now it no longer screws up when i select the shares setting in the web interface. my problem now is that even though the shares are set up and i can access them if i type in the directory directly (smb://tower/Movies), when i browse in Network Places it just doesn't show up..
October 26, 200718 yr From my computer, when I lose the server from Network Places I need to repair my connection. Once that is done it reappears in Network Places. This might be a windows bug, not for sure though.

This doesn't appear to be required every time, but when the device in question undergoes a change, sometimes I need to do that. Bill
October 27, 200718 yr Author Thanks for the responses guys. I tried rebooting and am still not seeing my Tower shares. I also tried rebooting my cable modem, router, and rebooting the unRAID.. I am using a mac (leopard) and it was showing up fine before the upgrade. The weird thing is, when I access through windows, I can see my Documents share but none of the 6 other shares i made. Of course, if i manually type in the address from mac or windows i can access them. Yes, i have my disk shares settings as "export read/write" One other thing and i don't know if this is related to the same issue.. I have an empty "Recorded TV" share i want to delete (it truely is empty; i looked for hidden files on it). When i erase the name and hit apply, it just pops back up again. I can not delete it. Also, when i try to rename it, (change "recorded tv" to "music"), it doesn't work either. i am wondering if something got corrupted in my setup.. anyone with ideas?
October 27, 200718 yr Ok, you say you have your DISK SHARES exported read/write ... this won't let you see your user shares. This may have just been a typo on your part, but you need to export read/write the user shares as well to see them when browsing the network, etc.
October 27, 200718 yr Author oh yes sorry I have disk shares "export read/write" with user shares enabled. well it's weird when i manually tried typing in one of my shares on the mac, all of my user shares suddenly popped up. so that works fine now. Now, i still can't rename any of my user shares or delete them.
October 27, 200718 yr I do experience the same problem. After upgrading to 4.2.1 as soon as I try to enter the Shares folder in the web interface I receive an empty page and the web interface is no longer resposive at all. It seems that at the same time all the functionality of the unraid server is ok. The only problem presently is that I thus can't adjust the settings of the shares. I have at present 29 top-level directories on the disks. This to my mind don't seem like like too large a number, but should I reduce these pending a solution to the issue previously recorded? //janhan
October 27, 200718 yr Author well for some reason, it does seem like there is a limit to how many top level directories one can have before things get out of whack. i have no idea what that limit is or why it is there.
October 27, 200718 yr well, I rearranged the top-level directories and now only have 17 instead of the previous 29. I don't know the actual limit but now the Shares web folder responds. //janhan
October 27, 200718 yr Author that's good maybe tom should add something to the documentation talking about the limits in number of top level folders so people don't get confused. is anyone else having problems in renaming or deleting user shares like i am?
