SATA Mode on ASUS M4A890GTD PRO/USB3

Featured Replies

ok, so i have an ASUS M4A890GTD PRO/USB3.

I also have a Dell 6ir SAS Card (LSI 1068e)

When i plug my LSI Card in it won't load the BIOS for the LSI Card if the Onboard SATA controller is set to AHCI.

It works if set to IDE.

I know that it is better to have it set to AHCI if possible.

Though some testing i've noticed that if i set the controller mode to RAID then it also works (ie, not creating any arrays, just letting it detect using the RAID BIOS)

Will the RAID mode with the drives as single drives act like AHCI drives? or IDE??

Yes it will. I had mine set for RAID (JBOD only) mode on my M4A89TD Pro without any adverse effects. Both RAID and AHCI modes perform about the same under unRAID as far as I can tell.

When you say not loading the LSI BIOS, do you mean when you try to get into the card config (ctrl-c)? I've been able to use both of my BR10is (1068e HBA) with both RAID and AHCI modes for the on-board. Of course, I have to temporarily disable the on-board controller completely in order to load the LSI BIOS configuration.

When it boots in AHCI mode, it gets to the screen when it loads the LSI BIOS and then comes up with error that the BIOS couldn't load, press any key to continue and it doesn't detect any drives on the card.

If RAID mode works just as well as AHCI, then im happy with this work around.

I just didn't want to set it to RAID, and then find out IDE was better after i had my array setup, etc, etc
