May 25, 20215 yr I had previously bound a NVMe drive to a VM but i wanted to try something so i removed it from the PCI devices in the VM settings. I think it was at this point i could see the NVMe again in unassigned devices. I tried to add the drive to a VM using the manual vDisk location (/dev/disk/by-id/ata-XXXXXXXXXXXXXX) but when i try to update the VM config it just hangs and doesn't work. I've tried shutting down KVM, removing the binding, rebooting the server, switching the 'auto mount' to off and i still can not get the VM settings to take it. I'm thinking this is because the NVMe is a PCIe device and isn't communicating via SATA controller, is that right? It's been a long day and it only occurred to me now that this could be the reason. It would be great to know if this is the reason.
